Eric - Then what exactly do you (or Industry) have to offer that is better than what is already available? Energetics have not gone anywhere since the 1980's. Rocket motors and warheads are made the same way today, as they were in the 1940's. And no one wants to change that. Industry doesn't. And the buyers don't. So don't blame ONR for the lack of a better mousetrap, or not making a better buggy whip, - if anything - offer ONR a better energetic that changes the way business is done, offer a better way to make large rocket motors - as safe, with the same performance - less expensively. By comparison, lasers, EM propulsion and similar science - has yet to be even tapped for the smallest gains - and offers a speed of light solution at a price margin that only costs the fuel require to power it with and operate it.

Sadly, ONR continues to ignore the existing issue. Energetics is the technology which needs to continually be invested in. While they are devoting the majority of their funds towards a technology that is light years away from actually being developed on a ship, let alone being deployed on the wing of an Aircraft. They are squandering the one promising, and reliable capability that the Navy has which is Energetics. As this capability continues to dwindle, ONR happily continues to squander this capability and ignore the advances and countless potentials that this technology has. Thanks to thermobarics, our warfighters have one more tool at their disposal in Afghanistans countless caves, and one could only imagine all the other capabilities our warfighters might have if ONR weren't so obsessed with trying to emulate Buck Roger's laser gun.
