The new LCS' cannot be considered a part of the Brownwater Navy. They are much too large to penetrate desolate waterways. Perhaps the closest craft I can think of was our ATCs/Monitors. And they were about 60 feet long and around 18 or 20 feet wide. At least they were able to traverse some pretty narrow rivers and canals. And carry troops and had kick-azz firepower! This Tri-Model fleet idea is not going to work unless all conditions are perfect. And I haven't seen that yet.
I'm all for improved small littoral craft, even though our current inventory of small combat craft looks impressing. I suppose all this difference of opinion comes down to one's definition of "littoral".

Also a Brownwater vet, Sea Float/Sea Anchor, this article is meant to confuse people. That is where littoral warfare, GFS and Offshore Parternering will happen NOT up the rivers, bays and lakes. Brownwater ops are different and not well funded. The Navy should be tri-modal to operate in all three environments

As a Brownwater Navy vet I say: let’s get the name of this article corrected to read “greenwater”.
