From what gather the defenses as of now are a joke.. I’m sure most of have heard of Gary McKinnon aka “solo” who accessed multiple government networks, ranging from the pentagon to NASA. Get this, using a dial up modem and a commercial remote access program…

In an interview he mentioned that the majority of government computers run windows and several still had DEFAULT PASSWORDS (UN: admin PW: admin).. Secure indeed.

He didn’t crack anything IMO (cracking being the malicious form of hacking) the door was wide open, he was just stepped through it. That in no way condones his actions, what he did was wrong. But I’m glad he was not someone who was trying to do harm..

Why doesn’t the Military design it’s own Kernal and operating system? Individuals design and create their own Linux distributions that are 10 X more secure than windows. If one person can do it, I refuse to believe that the US Military couldn’t do it!

fully agree, we need an ROE for cyber… make it known too, no covert only operations, otherwise our “cyber power” is minimized… (aka — show of force)
We have it for the physical military environment, but not virtual

include the legal, forensic, political aspects… I predict we will have analysis paralysis when we get hacked big time… and only be able to close our doors / connections to minimize damage… thus a self DOS attach…

No, actually, I don’t. If you’re serious then you’re a fool; only a fool would honestly believe that people whose MILITARY MISSION is to hack things won’t have identified vulnerabilities in the OSX platform.

The bulk of the problems that the USG and especially the DOD experience is because they are tied to the Windows platform.

Moving to the Mac OS X platform would alleviate those problems.
