Today, Smiles; Next Week, Who Knows?

The faces from across the land stretch across our Mall, past the church of the presidents and the White House, all the way past the Canadian Embassy on Pennsylvania Avenue up to the Capitol on this day we celebrate our national democracy.

And it is the Capitol about which I’m going to write. While incoming president Barack Obama readies for the enormous burdens he will shoulder after placing his hand on the Bible Abraham Lincoln used for his inauguration, he must be considering –and planning for — the relationships he will manage with the House and Senate. For those reared in parliamentary democracies, it’s very difficult to believe that a Democratic president might be challenged by fellow Democrats on the Hill or helped much by Republicans.

But the congressional Democrats are already flexing their muscles. Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) told the Hill newspaper that, “I don’t work for Barack Obama — I work with him.” Reid signaled that the Senate at least would not cede power to the executive branch as he said happened during the Bush administration. Reid is not alone — senior Democrats in both houses have already criticized Obama policy plans and nominees.

Defense issues — especially spending — will be particularly challenging for Obama on the Hill. Liberal Democrats have signaled several times that they expect defense spending cuts, although Obama seems inclined — for this coming budget at least — to maintain defense spending levels at the levels proposed by the Bush administration. Buzz readers will remember the story we broke about Rep. Barney Frankcalling for a 25 percent cut to Pentagon spending.

The head of the House Appropriations defense subcommittee, Rep. John Murtha (D-Penn.) said money for weapons will have to come from spending originally slated to fund substantial increases in Army personnel. But many other Democrats — especially those on the House Armed Services Committee, strongly support Marine and Army personnel increases.

So savor today’s moments and ready for the very hard work to come.

Regardless of the Senate Leadership posturing, and Ms. Pelosi statements, the Curtain hiding the Shakers and Movers, is controlled by the funders, the NGOs, the Lobbyists, and the Left Agencies. Make no mistake, the end results, will be guided by the Center for American Progress, CPUSA, Democratic Strategies, and their ilk. Unlike former Pres. Clinton and his wife, Pres. Obama knows how to salute properly and he made it very clear about how we will stand up and prevail over the enemies out there. Yes, almost anything can happen as I recall at 18 the Bay of Pigs fiasco just a few weeks after JFK took over in January, 1961. The Cuban invaders were promised US air cover which did not happen. JFK was furious with Dulles, the CIA honcho. Back in May or June of 1993 Time magazine had an article, “Is it time to declare the Clinton administration a failure..? Old Billary had been in office a few months and bogged down with the gays in the military debacle. Sign me a devout third generation Democrat.

New CINC says he wants to be more like RR. Dont count on it, his congressional and state voting records label him extremely liberal, and we all know how liberals really feel about our military, ie Mr murtha.

we are all in trouble.Evin with the savior in office. We must all do our part. Find out what you can do,and (GET R DONE)

You in the military had better start saving TODAY, because you budget is about to be cut big time. Just like with Clinton, you will be considered second class citizens and of no value to the Obamaist leadership. The worst is yet to come. Forewarned is forearmed! Just mark it down. you heard it here first.

how about spraying ground killer that will last 7 years…that should douse the poppies until the war is over

I do not believe that President Obama will cut funding for the military.
Barney Frank is an idiot. Pres. Obama may ask for a cut in the raises for the military, which I believe would be justified. They have had some big raises in the past years. I don’t think the Officers should get any pay raises for a while due to the fact the make much more than the enlisted, especially Captain’s and above.
Pres. Obama knows to send our men and women into harm’s way requires money, and he will not do anything to hurt them.

Harry Reid doesn’t work period.

Eddie: they’re not idiots. With the exception of Sen Webb and a few others they’re just self-serving politicos manipulating our money to best serve their friends, interests and re-election chances.

Is there possibly a way to get Mr. Reid to STFU and STFD and let real people get to work around here? If there is would someone please use this persuasion on Madame Pelosi?
Thank you
