We haven’t had a real crisis yet where our own satellite capabilities were required. But when it happens it may bring our intel passing and gathering to a halt. For instance, we now use INMARSAT and THURIYA for some intel passing. delete THURIYA (an arab company) and our capabilities may rest on only one provider who has no defensive capability to protect his satellites. Plus, all our intel has to pass over a satellite designed for commercial operation. We need our own (i.e., military) assets to guarantee delivery of data. Whether these sats cost #3.6B I don’t know. Still the effort should be made to procure them.

Our intel gathering capability is a disaster and that’s for lack of a better term. I see the feds still have the “Stansfield Turner Syndrome”, truly believing satellites can take the place of HUMINT. HUMINT is still the best intel gathering way.

Bringing John Deutsch in again??? That moron who fanatically enforced Bill Clinton’s Executive Order banning gathering HUMINT from people with shady backgrounds?? Hello?? How dumb can our intel agencies be??? Let’s see here, police only go to squeaky-clean people to find out what the underworld is doing… RIIIIIGHT.

John Deutsch, who had classified intel on a non-secure home computer and got only a six-month suspension of his clearance?? If anyone else had done that, he’s be in prison!!!

Is Kerr responsible for the two spysats Boeing got paid almost a billion dollars for and then were told to shred the hardware when they never could figure out if they worked or not??

Who is going to pay for that???
