But the saying of "The best solution is the simplest" keeps coming to mind. Yet prop planes would be easy to shoot down compared to UAVs/A-10's.I believe restarting A-10 production along with upgrading A-10's would be extremely smart for the short-mid term. But also investing in research for a UAV that can replace a A-10 would be smart for the mid-long term.

I myself personally believe that all the talk of blimps and prop planes is taking a step backwards instead of forwards. The Bronco or Texan would be useful only from a Recon/CAS prospective. A-10 would be useful in both Recon/CAS and a variety of others (also can get to trouble spots alot faster with a really big gun). A small CAS airframe is cheaper but when you look at it in a "most bang for the buck" way the A-10 seems to come out on top for the current war and future conflicts.

Any thoughts on restarting A-10 produuction? First we need a new and clear policy and mission in Afghanistan. If we decide to pursue this course, then we need the equivalent of a Douglas A-1 Skyraider, or an A-37 Dragonfly.Daniel Russ Civilianmilitaryintelligencegroup.com

Good question Mr. Grant. The advantage of the CAS turboprop planes is that it strikes a balance between the loiter time of a UAV and the weapon-space of a full-size plane, so that they can provide some serious firepower, but still be around for a while to help out the guys on the ground when the exrement hits the ventilator.

Currently the thing holding back UAVs as CAS vehicles is their relatively low payload capacity.
