Tragedy Stalks Fort Hood

UPDATED: Shooter Cried “Allahu Akbar — God Is great — Before Firing. Questions Arising About Possible Militant Views.

Tragedy has struck Fort Hood, the kind that will weigh on the minds of Americans for months, and be remembered for years. At least 12 people were killed and 31 wounded in a pair of shootings Thursday at the Fort Hood Army base in Texas, the Army says. Some late reports indicate the shooter was an Army psychiatrist who was about to be deployed. The Fort Hood website says the base remains locked down.

An Army official says one of the suspects in a shooting rampage at Fort Hood, Texas, on Thursday was an Army major and that he had two Soldiers as potential accomplices.

According to a report from ABC news quoting Lt. Gen. Robert Cone, the commander of III Corps based at Fort Hood, the suspected shooter was Army Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan. The suspected shooter used two handguns in the attack, Cone told the network.

Nadal is suspected to have acted with two other Soldiers in the attack, both of whom have been apprehended, ABC reported.

According to accounts posted in KDH news’ Twitter feed, the shooter was killed by local police. Schools on the base are in lockdown and one Ft. Hood civilian policeman is among those killed in the attack.

Twelve people were killed and 31 wounded in a pair of shootings Thursday at the Fort Hood Army base in Texas, the Army says. An army spokesman in Washington says the base has been locked down following the shootings.

Army spokesman Lt. Col. Nathan Banks says the first shooting began at about 1:30 p.m. at a personnel and medical processing office. The facility, called a Soldier Rating and Processing center, handles administrative details for soldiers.

Banks says two shooters were apparently involved. There was no immediate word on who they were, nor on identities of the dead.

Banks says the second incident took place at a theater on the sprawling base.

Another Army official identified that site as the Howze Theater.

That official, who requested anonymity to discuss an evolving incident, said a graduation had been scheduled for 2 p.m. at the theater.

President Obama called the shootings a “horrific outburst of violence” and said his “prayers are with the wounded and the families of the fallen.”

Commander Halverson: DO NOT let the FBI take charge of this investigation! They will white wash it and say it was NOT an Islamic conspiracy, and will say it was a disgruntaled soldier, when we all know it was Islamic and they must be tried at GITMO under a military tribunal!!! DO NOT let the FBI have them to try in civilian court, even if OBAMA says so!!!!!!!!

It’s a pity that this wacko who slaughtered his brothers and sisters-just happened to be a Muslim (which he wasn’t once he chose to commit that heinous act). My heart goes out to the families.

“Horrific outburst of violence”

He makes it sound spur of the moment “shit happens” kind of event. This thing was planned out by the shooters.

For those who don’t know, Howze Theater is where briefings and military course graduations take place. Its not an entertainment place. Just wanted to clarify that.

Every assembly of military personnel needs force protection! Objectors to the conflicts do not need to be in the officer corps. Doctors who join the services are not military personnel, just Md’s whose prevalent previous thought process was singular success and monetary reward. Now there are those who truly are military personnel that serve the front line troops, hospital ships and work toward the best that can be offered to our men and women in service. But there are also this type, who when transferred from Walter Reed into the real 3rd Corps Army, found that his exalted persona was going to the meat grinder with the troops. Their stories will be his stories, no more professional detachment , since he might have to put” enemy blood ” on his hands to enable his own survival. We do not know the facts yet, as to his motives, but we do know this SOB was talking down the fighting to troops in the conflicts at hand.

UCMJ could have solved this before it happened if it had been applied to the officer corps! If I had been assigned to him as a patient and he started with that BS, you can bet that he would have been identified as a security threat and under no uncertain terms would be the object of my displaced aggression from PTSD! If we do not realize that we need fresh troops from a total commitment toward our national security then it is our own fault if we cannot deal with the resultant effects of 8 years of incredibly intense urban, desert IED laden combat! This is a clear call to action for a all out draft, in order to replace the 2nd, 3rd and 4th rotation combat troops. Take over Wall Street, make the banks lend money to small business and draft NOW! The duration that is required to train up troops to the caliber needed in these conflicts just elongated by 2 years. New requirement 6 months boot, 6–12 months MOS-A-school training, 6 months advanced training, 4 months maneuver joint warfare.

I wish our government and military were more aware of the Islam religion. See http://www.jihadwatch.org/islam-101.html. They are commted to kill all non-Muslim infidels, which includes Christians as well as Jews, Buddhists, etc. Remember that they wiped out the Chrisians of Lebanon and bombed the US military barracks there. They are also commited to use deceptive practices to further their cause, whether it be get into into the military or to negotiate peace treaties. Muslims should not be allowed in the service even thought that is religious discrimination. But in their case, since their religion says to kill us, we must discriminate.

Interesting that you you said that he became a non-Muslim when he chose to commit this act. In actuality the Koran says to kill infidels, See http://www.jihadwatch.org/islam-101.html. So he was following the dictates of his religion!! I wish our government and military understood this. See my Guest entry below.

One thought that comes to mind is how did this loser stay in the military in spite of his poor performance, inability to deal with people, etc?? The military is desperate for any medical provider, they will shuffle losers around, etc just to fill a slot. When you hear how poorly this guy performed, and how unwilling he was to go overseas — why was he not separated a long long time ago?? We should definitly penalize his previous supervisors and we need to have some sort of medical draft. That will NOT be popular, but we can’t be dependent on psychos to treat our folks.
I hope someone interviews all the soldiers that he might have been “helping” and asks if he was advising them to go on a shooting rampage!

You can find plenty of outdated and embarrasing passages in both the Koran and the Bible. Does that give a person with a malicious mind the excuse to commit evil is the question you should be asking.

It’s not an excuse, he was commanded to do that by his religion! And we need to be much more vigilant to prevent more of these terrorist acts, whether it’s on a military base, a shopping mall, an airport, etc. Imagine a few of these guys in a crowded airport with AK 47s.

Drake1 is right. Both the Christian Bible and the Old Testament called for exterminating other people. How many times did God tell the Hebrews to match into some land and slay every man woman and child?

Dozens.

Look at the Phelps family that attends the funerals of US servicemen and praises their deaths because they think God is punishing American for homosexuality. The Phelps family and church members are all Christians.

Was Timothy McVeigh a Muslim? How about the Ku Klux Klan who still infest the South. Let’s see.…oh yeah…They are all Christians.

Should we then impugn Christianity? No. it wasn’t religion that caused this at all.

To impugn every Muslim for one Muslim’s crimes is just bigotry and stupidity.

true however this “gentleman” was a Muslim who happened to say allu Akbar before killing soldiers who just hap pended to be preparing to deploy to a Muslim country.

to put the PC goggles on and act like a naive child because you are afraid to be called a bigot or race is also stupidity at its finest.

It’s not about being PC…

Amidst World War II, we suspected numerous true Americans of being enemy infiltrators simply because they were of German, Italian or Japanese descent. Yet look at the 442nd Infantry Regiment that was comprised almost entirely of all Japanese-Americans, they went on to become the most highly decorated military unit in the US armed forces, while also suffering disproportionately high casualties while striving to prove their dedication and loyalty to our nation. Yet even after the war many Americans still treated these heroes unfairly and spat in their faces.

The Korean War, Vietnam War, and throughout the Cold War… it’s been the same theme time and again.

And with our current war on terrorism, there are still fools like you who condemn 2.8 million of our fellow Americans simply because our enemies believe in a bastardized version of their religion or share the same heritage. Don’t forget that the Crusades sanctioned genocide and murder in the name of Christianity, bastardizing the religion to feed their greed. Should all European Christians have been condemned just because of these greedy few and misguided many?

This incident should not be representative of all Americans that believe in Islam or are of Arabic descent. I have served with a few, and there is no doubt in my heart that I would be willing to put my life in their hands because they have proven themselves to be true Americans time and time again. Whether or not you are willing to acknowledge it, Arab and Muslim Americans are among our fallen servicemen who have served in our current war on terrorism and wars prior.

Who cares about what religion this man followed? He was a scumbag either way and should be executed for treason. He was a disgrace to his religion anyway like those we are fighting in the Middle East.

Yet the military should reexamine it’s laws and security system on bases. Currently, the only people besides for police allowed to carry a weapon on base are a few officers. Why don’t soldiers have the right to carry a personal weapon if they have permits and everything?

what amazed me about this, was the amount of combat trained military personel there who didnt do anything to stop this man. it took two civilian cops to stop him! there were people who just came from iraq, the shock of this man shooting at them couldnt have been so much that they couldnt do anything!

Well it is truly a sad day in American Military History, investigators should look in to a scientific theory and see if Army Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan conditoned himself with PTSD. Army Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan is a trained psychiatrist after all, and even his colleagues made reports being a Muslim first is not a crime, it is his father’s fatherland, I do quote General Colin Powell, once said I am an African American, and I am an American. Having worked myself with Palestian people they are ordinary people like anybody else is in this world, they are especially excellent police people. Yes like in any religion there are moderist, and extremist, and it was a crime committing 13 killings and 23 wouned, but it happened and we will not forget, but I am looking at it at an individual level not a group.
