PRC Crows PLA Bumps F-35

PRC Crows PLA Bumps F-35

If ever there was a sign of a feisty and rising power, this is it. China is taking credit for a truncated buy of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter that hasn’t even happened, yet. The website of China’s state-run People’ Daily reported that the Obama administration was reconsidering its purchase of F-35 fighters because of China’s rapidly growing military prowess.

The People’s Daily cites recent comments by Andrew Krepinevich, president of the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments, that the administration should cut the F-35 buy because short-ranged tactical fighters would be of limited utility in a war against China. The website says Krepinevich carries powerful sway in the Pentagon and his recommendations would likely be followed.

Krepinevich, and others at CSBA, have long been arguing that in future high-end battles, short-ranged tactical fighters have limited value, particularly in the face of ever improving Chinese reconnaissance strike complexes and long-range anti-air missiles.

Yet, as Krepinevich told our own Colin Clark, a point perhaps China misses, he argues for a cut in the F-35 buy in order to free up money to spend on long-range strike weapons — bombers and missiles — that would be better suited to penetrating Chinese air-defenses.

So, sure China could take credit for a cut in F-35s, if that happens; but if Krepinevich’s advice was truly followed by the Pentagon, the net result would be a weakening of China’s strategic position.

Barry Obama kills the F-22 now his Maoist buds say the killed the F-35

Is there really an difference?

No more F22, now a cut in F-35s… so what is the next?

Seems like you have a Think Tank for every season pushing potential scenarios that benefit a certain weapon system.

Lockmart is getting clobbered in the all important information “battle space”. They better get a handle on this.

Good Morning Folks,

Lets see the Heritage Foundation becomes an agent for foreign governments, signs a contract in January for lobbying services with the PRC and now this story comes out that Heritage written all over it.

Those peculiar institutions of winger tanks will stoop to any level that can to get their message across.

What’s next bring back the battleships to pound China’s
coast, so the Marines can do an amphibious assault?

ALLONS,
Byron Skinner

Byron with another absurd conspiracy plot based around the Heritage Foundation… yeah, lets just listen to those “wise” moonbat liberal thinktanks instead. The Heritage Foundation wasn’t even mentioned in this article.

All of this does raise an interesting point about the posibility of larger “strategic” fighters. Yet we can’t keep waiting for the next best thing or we will never replace our current aging fleet of aircraft.

How about both? Order more F-35 say 5000 more and long range tactical bombers and long range/ low flying ICBM missiles. Refined the defense shield and counter measure deterrent.

Hopefully the war w/ China wlill not happen because were talking about a Billion army and alot of firepower. But because of possible conflict with North Korea and a possible conflict with China htrough Taiwan, we still need to prepare for the unexpected.

We also need to improve our site design for our missile defense shield and military and civilian shelter to underground sites to make it unpenetrable against nuclear attack..

Yea those Chinese better stop pointing and giggling or we’ll just try harder ! Gee that’s sad.

The Chinese don’t think we can, and the mountain of pork that is the JSF shows that they are right.

At a certain point fighters will never have enough range, so that’s why I never understood why the USAF doesn’t just embrace the reality and adapt the USMC approach of VTOL F-35’s? Do a forcible entry with your bombers and then strategically take the key terrain as FAARP’s for your F-35’s and hide amongst them.

Heck we should be able to do it just like the enemy is hiding amongst us.

Nick,
If what I have heard at least the Taiwanese have seen the light about the F-35B and are looking at buying it.

I am willing to bet that the advice on cutting the F-35 will be followed but funding will not be increased for long range strike weapons.

Nick Chen, personally I think perhaps the USAF should invest in a number of F-35Bs, yet the F-35B is a bit less capable due to weight concerns. It carries less fuel and smaller internal payload. I still think the majority of what they buy should be the F-35A.

Bywrong and his hatred of the “think tank” folks…I wonder if Bywrong smears the intell community for pointing out the massive PRC military build-up? Given a choice between Bywrong and Andy Krepinevich, who would most people believe? How would Bywrong propose the US handle PRC aggression?? Army SOF? Infantry?
The Chinese threat has arrived and it is time to adjust US defense priorities to accommodate this threat.

BEFORE WE PAY SO MUCH ATTENTION TO CHINA, WHO OWN US FINANCIALLY, MAYBE AS AMERICANS WE SHOULD LOOK AT OUR ‘PRESIDENT’, WHO IN HIS ARROGANCE WILL NOT EVEN PROVE HIMSELF TO BE AN AMERICAN. PERHAPS LATER WHEN HE CLAIMS TO CHANGE HIS RELIGION TO ISLAM WE WILL STILL BE GOING DUH !

Good Evening Folks,

What massive PRC build up? Be specific is you can. As for Lt. Colonel Krepinevich, I wouldn’t put much faith in a USMA Grad. that only made it Lt. Col., as far as I can Krepinevich didn’t even stick around for the rocking chair money.

Again don’t keep to yourself, Inside, come on tell us what massive Chinese military build up.

ALLONS,
Byron Skinner

That’s right, there is no Chinese military buildup going on at all. Just ask Japan.

While your looking at the photo’s at the attached link, be sure to take note of the fantastic progress that being made on the “floating casino” (laugh).

Hey, lets keep buying our wardrobes and housewares from China so they can buy bigger and better guns than us.

Who cares? As long as we get our FREE healthcare, FREE welfare, FREE drugs, FREE homes, FREE cars, FREE etc., Obumba is going to make this a utopia! So we don’t need a military, if we just be nice to everyone, they will be our friends. We will all hold hands together and sing kumbyya, and we will plant trees and flowers. LOL.
ALLONS

Stop pointing out the truth about our manchurian candidate President, you will upset Byron.

I find it amazing that a bunch of patriots read a Chinese State run propaganda article and believe it “hook, line, and sinker.” If the article demanded you to “Jump” would you ask “How high?”. OMG, we have already lost.……

In a war with china, the US military is more likely to run out of ammo and fuel to fly their bombers to drob bombs on china or sail their resupply ships to shina, than the Chinese are likely to run out of bodies to hand a AK-74 clone and 200 rounds to and send off against the US troops in china.

Meanwhile china can’t invade the US because the US navy and air force can sink any ships and down enough paratroop planes that China simply can’t get enough troops to the US… so in a war with china, all thats going to happen is the US sits behind its borders and sniggers at the chinese…

Things change if the war goes nuclear, but china looses their body numbers advantage there.

I just don’t see any reason for a US invasion of China, or any likelihood of success of an attempted invasion of the US by china.

Any war would be a miserable standoff, and while both governments are ideological prigs, neither is mad enough to actually get into a shooting war neither side can win.

Cold war 2.0 would be all the go instead. can the US out-economy China the way the did the USSR since china is now a capitalist economy controlled by a Communist heirachy whereas Russia was a communist economy ruled by a communist heirachy?

Cuts in the F35 program, under ANY guise, fits directly into the Code Pink advice given to the OBNA. Oval Office Sofa Sitters, Code Pink, Democratic Strategist, Underground Democrats, Socialist Democrats, all have long advocated a CUT in F35 programs, with attendant transfer of “Saved” monies to the NGO advocates.

Chinese taking credit for influencing FP is an old ploy. ANY item that the Chinese can indirectly influence, to their benefit is a given FP direction. For China watchers, the DOD cuts currently under way, add fuel to thier hopes and dreams fires.

After more than 50 years of public service in the military, this smacks of another decline in our military capability. I remember a friend of mine who happened to be an Army General who was directed by President Reagan to brief the Chief of Staff for the Chinese Army about our Military back in the late 1980’s. The Chinese CoF said that the USA was at its zenith and no one could compare to our military might at that time. The Chinese General also said that within 20 years they would surpass us in every aspect. The Chinese hack into almost every computer system we have, maufacture just about every type computer in our inventory and we are not worried should raise a RED flag to every American. The Obama Administration is terminating just about every advance military system we were working on, from The F-22 fighter programs, C-17 Airlifter, Space programs, Navy Ship Construction cancellations to small arms. We are in trouble ladies and gentlemen and better take a closer look or we will be looking down the barrels of Chinese weapon systems.

Barack Obama is the REAL MANCHURIAN candidate. He has refused to divulge who paid for his expensive education and subsequent election campaigns. Seems to me the Chinese have us right where they want us.
Perhaps the previous comment from tjoneill62 is correct.

A black man becomes president of The United States and your world falls apart. John McCain was born in a U.S. military hospital in Panama; no one ask for his birth certificate because his farther is an American citizen.
Barack Obama’s mother was an American citizen, she was from Nebraska, so if he was born on Mars he is an American citizen and all you raciest need to get over it.

I do detect more venom than care for America’s war strategy. The reality is we are at war with two countries and mainly the one paying for them. What can a short range fighter do where we are? America mass production cranked out hardware for the need in WWII. If we have an industrial base we are better off than an inventory of budget draining equipment. I wish the president would kick up the pace for that “Bottom-Up” economy, to increase our manufacturing ability. Don’t forget the economy is likely to bring our demise before China mounts up an invasion. PRC may want to have a strong military to back them up when they come to collect on their debt, kinda like the plan for Africa. Thank you President Obama, where ever you were born, for backing the nation away from a total economic collapse caused by the “no more taxes” and “reclaiming America” folk who inflicted a great calamity on this great land.

I have a question for you: When did anyone say any of those ‘benefits’ were FREE? Making something available to everybody is not GIVING it to everybody. Would you like the government to rescind the requirement to make phone service ‘available’ to you?

You mean pushing us closer to economic ruin and seriously harming our military and industrial capabilities? The “reclaim America folk” are right about the total incompetence of our leaders.

William, I mean setting a course to move the nation back from the harm already done. If you can’t give credit where it is due, then admit the loss of objectivity. Those doing all that reclaiming have little room to call others incompetent. It takes a lot of denial to overlook the poor judgment in the economy and choosing wars leading up to the present administration.

Reality is that VSTOL hampers a fighters effectiveness due to complexity and weight. It has its place but the USAF has little need for it.

You can’t excuse this administration’s failures and poor choices due to the last administration. Bush started this bailout mess but that doesn’t excuse Obama continuing it on a grander scale. And I am tired of this “you people are all racist” argument from the left.

Its FREE if you don’t pay taxes. Otherwise your taxes are going to ensure it is FREE for those who don’t contribute.

Damn Chinese. They’ve been causing problems ever since ancient times.

Walk softly and carry a big stick. Words of wisdom from TR. Today we walk softly. As for the big stick? Seems it has been locked in a broom closet somewhere.

If Obama has his way, this great nation will be pulled down so far, that we could not defend our nation from anyone. He only want’s to deal this nation a death wish. open up this nation to all who wants to come here. free border’s no rule’s.

Choices you don’t agree with do not qualify them as being poor. Consider the economy, no one in their right mind or who has any grasp of this multi-trillion dollar economy can deny the nation was in more trouble than inflation or recession, compared to a collapse. Now things are in recession, but that is relatively better than collapse, bringing the dead back to life. Carrying big sticks costs money on the trillion dollar level. Britain carried a big stick but that military expense broke them down. The Chinese have a few centuries compared to this nation and should not be taken lightly. Military hardware isn’t the most likely cause for defeat. However, America has capitalism and that is more powerful than military might. We will fear the Chinese if we aren’t objective to make the right choice to make the free market work and get productivity up. Our military industrial complex is suffering more than this or that fighter. Speaking of, do you think McCain and Palin could have turned the economy around, hence maintained our fighting ability to stay where we are in a wartime situation?

And what did the British get for abandoning their big stick? A nanny-state whose armed forces are always on the cutting block, and the government is still racking up billions in debt anyway. We cannot, we must not replicate their approach towards the armed forces.

We can cut out debt without gutting our military. We must do so.

The former Soviet Union crumbled under the weight of it’s military engine. If we don’t make changes, we will do the same. The price of the F35 has doubled! That is unacceptable. The troops on the ground need better vehicles, a new rifle and better personal protection. But the pentagon would rather spend money on multi-million dollar aircraft.
The old saying still holds true. Only boots on the ground can win a war.

Not true. No enemy will fight us in a stand up fight. So do we keep spending money on system that we will never be able to deploy or do we cancel expensive programs until we can afford them and put that money into better usage.
As for the Chinese being a threat. The Chinese represent the greatest threat to the United States since World War II. The Chinese have been able to infiltrate many levels of government and defense installations because of greedy people.
I say cancel a few programs and secure our borders and computer systems. We need to spend money on developing better intelligence gathering techniques and congress needs to leave the CIA and the NSA alone. The have a job to do.

William, you kinda got the point, see what they got. So, I suggest we live with being realistic and fight the wars we have. The smart money says we will be needing to deal with the Chinese, and others on the economic playing field way before the battlefield. Today, any military or non-state actor will have to know they have opened a large can of kickass they don’t want by the men and women we have now. The warfighter will have what they need. if we look at the big picture, the industrial complex vs. a platform here or there. Support your President.

NOW “COMRADES“THIS PRESIDENT CAME IN TO THE HEAD THIS BAD COUNRTY,AS HE WENT AROUND THIS WORLD NOT PRAISING US BUT SHOWING HOW WE ARE AND HE SAID WE NEED “HOPE&CHANGE“THIS IS PART OF THE PLAN.….DON’T FORGET THAT OTHER “GREAT“PRESIDENT “CLINTON“GAVE CHINA THE “AMERICAN” GUIDED MISSILE SYSTEM SO TO HELP THEM.….AND MANY YEARS AGO OUR GOOD FRIEND FROM THE “USSR” WHO CAME TO THE U.N.AND SAID” WE WILL BURY US FROM WITHIN.…SO THIS IS ONLY THE BIG PLAN.…“COMRADES”.…

Robertro2 you can say the economy, education, foreign relations, disaster preparedness and a few other things were in bad shape. However, the discussion is about a fighter platform that was cut and our defense posture in a larger discussion. If you don’t have any love for the president then okay. I am glad he is not making decisions on emotion and desire for attention. China’s threat to this nation is competition. I will judge this fellow on dealing with companies too big to fail that have lobbyist influence furthering their domination to control small business innovations and entry to markets. I think correcting this will regenerate the defense industrial base to take on all comers. I am more up in the air about DoD not owning the rights to equipment placed in the inventory, paid with tax dollars. You can be sure this hurts as much or more than a platform selection.

Hopefully Obama will be a one term President and the next Republican President will reopen the F-22 line and buy more of them. And also buy the full number of F-35s. Our current fighters will be aging when the Russians and the Chinese begin to deploy their 5th Generation fighters.

I agree that we need to keep our military strong. What many people do not realize is that government contractors overcharge and overbill for their goods and services they provide to the gov’t. I have seen costs stated in DOD contracts that are absolutely riduculous. What’s bringing this country down are the contractors not mention healthcare organizations and pharmaceutical companies. They OVER INFLATE everything. There’s needs to be CAP on what they charge to the government and to the American people.

Help me understand, it is someone out there that think by virtue of being a Republican, that distinction makes the nation immune from chaos? The Chinese are coming at you through the bank, where F-22’s or 35’s have no effectiveness. Perhaps this president will recover the nation far enough from a collapse that people will forget how the Top-Down, No New Tax to fix everything policy bought the nation to the brink where these tough decision have to be made. While standing in the soup line, after the party-of-no has got their greed on to succeed next time, causing a total economic collapse, where they came so close in ’09, there we can reminisce about F-22’s, baseball, big sticks and whatever that will be a good past time.

Keeping the military strong is a subset of keeping the nation’s economy strong. Granted we sell hardware, but you know what I mean. The contracting is huge and need a serious overhaul.

To WayfarerX, having a balanced budget should be one of the primary goals of both parties. But it hasnt been. But the chances are a lot greater for fiscal responsibility with a Conservative President and a Conservative Congress as long as they are true to Conservative principles. Yes, say “no” to more socialism in the United States government and say “yes” to more fiscal responsibility including renewing the Bush Tax Cuts next year. The alternative to letting them expire is the same as raising taxes in a recession making the economy much worse! Greater economic activity and vitality means more tax revenues and that is done by keeping taxes low. Not by hating “the rich” and calling for Marxist solutions.

Democrat zombie, while you complain about the Republicans, your friends in the White House and Congress are spending us billions into debt not to keep the nation strong, but to buy votes. Buy the votes of people like yourself so they can stay in power and copy the examples of Greece and other nations now bankrupt. They want to gut our military of all of it’s major capabilities and strengths so they can fund “free” healthcare, buy houses for people who don’t work and can’t afford them, and do whatever they can so the people will continue voting for them, it is a brutal cycle that seems to have already killed our space program.

Very interesting! However, this just shows me they are barely keeping up. What does the PRC have for carriers, one?

I agree with the silly remarks about racist every time we turn around! I must be one of the few that says the bail outs were necessary — not good — but necessary. Any student of history knows that lack of action, such as this, is what brought the last great depression upon the country. I’m not saying they are doing the totally right thing as after action to the economic calamity either; but we barely averted a great disaster. So far, congress seems to be putting in more safeties to prevent such disasters in the future; but financial institutions will just find other ways to gamble with other people’s money.

Yeah! Funny how they can cause so many problems, and rarely exit their borders. The few times they did, resulted in at least two of the biggest naval disasters in history! I feel the Chinese should be contained, to a point, but I can’t get paranoid about them. I definitely diss them at every opportunity for causing network breaches, and committing industrial espionage! I just can’t get too fearful about them. Competitive, yes; fear no.

I don’t think the military industrial complex can result in enough jobs to make a difference in the economy. Hiring more soldiers to do the job in Afghanistan would have made more sense, but we are ten years into that, and no one will support it much longer. The public is stupid about long range commitment, let’s face it. I think McCain would have extended the Bush plan for the economy just like Obama did. Historically no one had any choice in that disaster.

We do need to maintain our steel and high tech industry though. We need to keep our ship building and advanced aircraft capability industrial base going. I just don’t see why we can’t do it at a slower pace, and feed money into the programs more slowly, even if it results in high, per unit costs. We just don’t have a credible enemy that can keep up with us at this point. The Chinese aren’t even close.

The UK is just a little fart country. What can they seriously do to make a difference? If it weren’t for the Commonwealth they have with Canada and Australia, they would have to capitulate to the European Union. Something I don’t think they are want to do.

We aren’t in that situation, and could easily extricate our selves from trouble, if we would just delegate better leaders. We need civic responsibility again. Folks who didn’t like politics used to run for office out of civic duty. Now we got professional politicians; we deserve the crap we put ourselves into.

you know system you are using is made in Chinese ‚mobile you are using is made in Chinese .… why you complaining govt… as you it self buying Chinese products … they killing you and your country day by day

Jay on some points I can agree but there are a couple I different views. My point about the industrial complex is if the nation has to surge in production, it can with the range of requirements. I agree with the idea of “slower” as in not having a large inventory of equipment becoming obsolete before they are ever used. The job creation is a subset of national defense, however, the recovery should considered in context with meeting the war fighting need. If we recover the electronic, (as you said) and steel (mini mills) , regaining that capacity will make work here.

Where we are in different directions on the Administrations, Obama economic plans are significantly different than Bush as well as other policies. The Chinese are less likely to attack, in my opinion, as an invasion force. They are too busy expanding their influence in Africa and wherever natural resources are. They will trump America in business, if this nation’s business practices don’t change. Business including those important to producing those things that support the war fighter. I’ll stick to my opinion that the Chinese threat is in business competition. How will America look shooting someone who has taken Capitalism to the next level that is a communist nation? Remember we made that same boo boo with Japan having an industrial head start after WWII.

BradM, I don’t want to trivialize the balance budget, that is a critical point. However, in my view, the budget problem is the deficit situation, which limits the choices. If the economy dynamics (local, state and federal) are not sufficient to generate revenues, that in turn generate taxes for “essential” government expenditures then that is a different problem than debating over spending for nice to do things. Conservatives, since Ike, have not worked to get in a surplus revenue growth condition. They will talk about too big government, tax cuts and outright “spending cuts”. Where I’ve been, they have not talked about changing the economy’s business model, which the “Top Down” is the cause of this melt down. That model does not work. The Conservatives say cut taxes and everything will work for businesses to work. Do you believe that? Do you think our Import/Export policy is that simple? Do you think that America as a “Maritime Nation” will function just adjusting taxes? Conservative Republicans have practiced deficit spending, that way there is no money left on the table … that is the conflict with entitlement spending. I am saying “value”, efficiency and an economic model that is suited to the American way precedes balancing a budget that provides the Republic reasonable expectations of a quality of life. If you make the money then you can give your family the things they need and then some things that are nice but if you are broke, then pain is in the mix. Think about it in absolute terms, is the decision for relief finding a way to make more money or just keep cutting to live with deminishing income?

WilliamC, I really am complaining based on the hard facts that the Republicans done a poor job of running the economy. The sad part is this wasn’t just an error that drove the nation to the brink of economic collapse. The “Dollar” is America, and the philosophy they governed by nearly reduced the basis for our way of life to be valueless. They did it with their eyes wide open. Greenspan himself admitted that he was wrong and the policy they fought to have was wrong. What more do you want to know before you examine whether you are a Republican Zombie or not? The conservative way was going on to the interstate highway using the exit ramp, a direction for a head-on that that we all have to suffer. Wrecking the economy is not the way to make the way we live or the military strong. Were you as vocal when the last administration allowed the economy to be run with finances and banking using “gaming laws”, literally gambling with deposits? There was too much wrong for you to think about Conservative policy to be of any worth.

I not crazy about any of the politicians to tell you the truth; I think we need to throw the bums out! We definitely have stupid industrial policies in all fronts, for that matter. My cousins in Germany are making a fortune on farming, while we starve to death(so to speak), because of silly policies that promote “free trade” when we are the only ones practicing it.

I do like our ability to project power, but we could do it a lot smarter of course. I feel we could make a difference in world wide terrorism by just using our noggins. Just a little strategy would be a breath of fresh air. Perhaps if Obama cleaned his cabinet a little more, we might see some strategic thinking coming out of there. HA! I still feel Sec. Gates would resign before leading us too far astray.

Like I said to all the white racist out there this?! What black man blow up WTC, Pentagon and crashed a plane on Gettysburg property the same day 9–11?! So, if you would’ve listen to your fellow citizens (black athletes) in the 80’s there would be no 9–11 because the Russians win in Afghanistan (Let the Russian win that one and we go to the Olympics because those people will cut your rotten guts out)?! The only people you have to blame are the white racist who have lost on zillion dollars in 8years, crashed the housing market, crashed the financial markets, car markets, two wars, and spent every penny he and his family will make in the next 50 years?! Look in the mirror and stop blaming the poor black guy for your own short comings, dude?! Being black I don’t want another anthrax from white racist again claiming the letter came from Allah, what’s was that all about, homiest?! Now the world is calling you the great white hopeless? But I’m with you I’m gonna do what ever I can to make sure the above doesn’t happen to me and mine again and you too?!

I’m only an angry Blackman when you’re trying to kill me?! We used to fight together but, gone are the days, right?! So don’t talk about nothin’ on paper except the bible cause the rest are a joke?! RIGHT?! LONG LIVE THE UNION!!!

Our politicians put the antics of the Roman senate to shame in comparison. The Romans bought votes with their own money; our politicians buy our votes with OUR money. The most perfect scam in history, and we sit idle and let them do it.

We need to clean that out-house in Washington or we will do ourselves in!
