Here are some of the things on the Web we didn’t get to this week — but you still can:

• Cincinnati doesn’t need the dumb ol’ F136 jet engine anyhow, a local newspaper editorialized. The hometown team at GE Aviation, up in Evendale, has plenty of work doing other stuff.

• The House Armed Services Committee is going to do things in a very unusual way as it gets ready to deal with budget matters coming up.

• Chow time was special this week for Marine Lance Cpl. Wayne Snelling and Lance Cpl. Taylor Slay of the 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, because they, their comrades, and even their working dog, Mac, got special steak dinners courtesy of a Texas nonprofit.

• Here’s a new one: The Pentagon brass says we’re making progress in Afghanistan, but it’s fragile, and it all depends on events yet to transpire. Wait — haven’t we seen this movie before?

• The Fire Scout unmanned helicopter is setting endurance records — which it’ll need for its deployment to Afghanistan.

• Have you seen John’s video of the guy firing his Kalashnikov on full auto, and it totally comes apart? It’s not polite to laugh at others’ misfortunes, but — check it out.

I don’t pay attention to this racist cr**, it obviously a reflection of both the editorial policy of mil.com, and the Heritage Foundation and the other winger tanks who support this infromertial for the American right wing. For us who wants some rational thought into defense procurements this type of comment is the best right wing/industry response we could hope to get. This site at one time was take seriously and well read by the people making defense decisions. It not longer is. To quote a private post I got on The Daily Teaspoon:”…we already know their opinions.” By refusing to pull racists comments by posters the dod buzz and mil.com are only hurting themselves. There is only one opinion that matters in all and that is the President of the United States. Re. The second engine for the F-35 that all the racists wanted, job saving I assume was their motive for the most part. Months ago President Obama said he would not sign any defense budget that had that second engine in it, but the butternuts and the editor/writers of this site kept on arguing for it. I guess “Barry Obama” does get the last little chuckle on them. Moral of the story is, don’t make racial remarks about the man who’s decision ultimately determines if you have a job or not. Now what is their opinions on cutting defense or unemployment benefits? ALLONS, Byron Skinner

It wasn’t racism then and it isn’t racism now Byron, so stop labeling critics of Obama as “racists.” If the rest of us have to put up with deranged anti-Americans like Oblatski, then you can deal with critics of Obama. I can’t speak for the editors and writers of this site but I can’t say I would be pleased by accusations of being part of some absurd Heritage Foundation conspiracy. Constantly advertising this “Daily Teaspoon” blog or site of yours I’ve never heard of isn’t all that polite either.

I never referred to Sec. of Defense Rumsfeld other the Sec. of Defense. I also was critical of those who used pejoratives against the President on these public boards when President Bush was in office. As for Heritage Foundation there position on discrimination is a matter of public record. The use of racial buzz phrases has cost this site and mili.com a lot of creditability with the decision makers. The poster who engage in personal attacks, be it on public officials, or other posters are only hurting this site and it is apparent that may a poster who did have something to say has stopped posting on the buzz and DT and are on other sites that don’t tolerate this kind of abuse. More then one poster has commented that the buzz is nothing more then a mouth piece for right wing think tanks and noted as an example the heritage Foundation on their last posts here. They now can be found on sites that are serious about the issues. To ffg. I do enjoy your perspectives and lectures on European politics and cultural genetics, but I’m not quite sure in most of the cases such as above, what they have to do with anything. There are some this side of the pond that are familiar with 18th. and 19th. Century European history ffb. Next your are going to talk about the restoration and the house of Hanover, William and Mary and that the current British Royal family are really Germans. I would like to hear you version of the story of Catherine de Medici, the Duke of Anjou, Elizabeth I and the House of Valjou. I should be interesting and entertaining. ALLONS, Byron Skinner
