Swift Boating into a storm

Swift Boating into a storm

Presidential scholars do not expect the group of former special operators and CIA agents who released an anti-President Obama film Wednesday to have the same impact on the 2012 presidential election that the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth had on the 2004 presidential election.

Obama’s campaign team quickly compared the Special Operations OPSEC Education Fund, which released a 22-minute film that criticizes the president for the amount of details leaked to the press about the raid that killed Osama Bin Laden, to “Swift Boat tactics.”  The group is made up of former special operators with close connections to the Republican party.

“The Republicans are resorting to ‘Swift Boat’ tactics,” Obama campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt said in a statement to Reuters.

Shawn Perry-Giles, director of the University of Maryland’s Center for Political Communication and Civic Leadership, said the comparison is fair and sees the similarities between these special operators and the Republican group that attacked Senator John Kerry in 2004 when he ran against former President George W. Bush.

“In both cases, the attacks are going at a strong point of the candidate’s credibility for office (Kerry as a decorated veteran and Obama who successfully oversaw the capture of Bin laden),” wrote Shawn Perry-Giles, director of the University of Maryland’s Center for Political Communication and Civic Leadership, in an e-mail.

Leaders of the OPSEC fired back telling U.S. News & World Report that their group in now way compares to the Swift Boat group. OPSEC spokesman Chad Coulton told the magazine “this campaign doesn’t have to do with criticizing the president’s military service or anyone else’s.” Instead the group wants Americans to focus on the danger of the leaked information, no matter what party does the leaking.

A debate between the special interest group and the Obama campaign may be unnecessary, though, as some political scholars don’t expect the Republican party to latch onto the special operators much like the Bush campaign did with the Vietnam veterans.

By drawing attention to the leaks, the Republican leadership would also spotlight President Obama’s top national security accomplishment — capturing and killing the terrorist responsible for 9/11. Republicans would rather not talk about why Bin Laden was caught under a Democrat and not a Republican, said David Karol, an associate professor of American politics at the University of Maryland.

“The makers of the video are inevitably reminding voters about successes that occurred on Obama’s watch– killing Bin Laden and using the Stuxnet computer virus to sabotage the Iranian nuclear program. That’s likely to be less effective than linking Kerry to lingering bad feelings about America’s failure in Vietnam and the divisions it produced in American society,” Karol wrote in an e-mail.

I would expect a story like this on the Washington Post.

Lets not focus on what they are saying. Just focus that they are lying. My record doesnt matter, but those tax returns from Romney do. And those arent the droids you are looking for,

Excellent post.

My only regret is that my company does not hold the fumigation contract for the White House after O Zero is gone.

Good grief, more partisan drivel.

Hrm… Let me think back a few years. What did my chain of command look like? Oh, yeah, the President was at the very top, which means he does actually get to decide what information is released as both the head of the government and the military. If he breaks a law in doing so, that’s a whole other story.

The special operators making the claims of the President have yet to allege that any actual laws have been broken, so it’s all just political mud-slinging, and since it’s that time of year, that’s all it will be.

That’s not to say that OPSEC isn’t important and that I’m not personally extremely angry when people can’t keep their mouths shut about things that may or may not get friends of mine killed, I am. However, a president gets to make those sort of decisions, and it’s why some people are more comfortable with a president who has had military experience.

While I support the special operators, they look really stupid for playing political games rather than filling charges, or getting their congressmen to write a bill detailing better OPSEC policies.

The “Quiet Professionals”…hmmm…maybe not?

No partiality on DoDBuzz! Thanks for the story pointing out the political leanings of the “OPSEC” group and how similar it is to “Swift Boating”.

Z E R O professional analysis about the damage the release of Bin Laden raid intel may have done.
Z E R O professional analysis about the damage the stuxnet virus story may have done.
Z E R O professional analysis about the damage the story on drone targeting and approval process may have done.

(or a discussion of the timing of these releases if you want to get “political”)

DoD Buzz gave us two stories regurgitating what was released about the Neptune Spear op, another poking fun at a REPUBLICAN congressman(God forbid) because of his concerns DoD was releasing intel in its support of a movie about the Bin Laden raid. (BTW, DoD Buzz never reported the raid commanders name was shared with the film makers and OH, it was due for an election release).

Oh and this is the same writer who made a point that VP candidate Ryan isn’t talking about Afghanistan (neither is Biden or Obama), shared the left leaning VoteVets vs. the VFW (220k vs. 2.1 MILLION members) opinions on Ryan (like they are equal!) and closed with a comparison that none of the candidates have a veteran background (BTW Biden got five deferments to avoid getting a vet background).

Yeah, DoD Buzz doesn’t have an agenda!

The accusations against Obama from this tea party backed swift boat campaign.

– The president announced the bin Laden raid before intelligence picked up from bin Laden’s compound could be fully exploited. *none of the intelligence gathered has been detailed to the public except the fact porn was found in the compound and publicity announced.. PORN!

– The use of hitherto covert “stealth” helicopters on the raid was publicized.
* Love this one. Let’s act like a burnt out airframe, and intact tail section were not sitting at the compound. Let’s act completely oblivious to this fact, pictures and all. And despite this, the helicopter still has not been confirmed.

– The name of the secret unit that executed the raid –SEAL Team Six — was made public putting them and their families at risk. Seal team six is not a fucking secret. They are well known to the public. Obama did not make the wiki page about them. Seal team six answers directly to the secretary of the navy and POTUS. They have their own budget separate from all military branches.

– The name of the Pakistani doctor recruited by the CIA to help find bin Laden was leaked, jeopardizing him and the CIA’s ability to recruit spies in the future. The doctor is now serving 33 years in a Pakistani prison.
* the pakistains made this doctor public, not the Obama administration. They put him on trial. Information to explain the raid to the Pakistanis by the Obama administration was revealed after the fact. It was them who could not keep quite about it.

– Obama has taken way too much credit for killing al Qaeda’s leader. “Mr. President, you did not kill Osama bin Laden, America did. The work that the American military has done killed Osama bin Laden. You did not,” says a former Navy SEAL interviewed in the film. *This seal just contradicted himself. The American military, the entire military answers to the commander and chief. Clearly he is oblivious if that fact. Seal team six moves at the order of the commander and chief to and from advisement of only the secretary of the navy. Last time I checked, Barrack Obama is and was the president of the united states before, during, and after this raid that killed and captured Osama bin laden. Therefore, yes… He the commmander in chief of the US military is responsible for the raid that killed Osama bin laden, weather that responsibility is negative or positive. Because you tea party republican shit heads sure would nail him if the raid went bad, and would not say shit about bush being involved. So STFU!

“I don’t know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don’t care. It’s not that important. It’s not our priority.“
– G.W. Bush, 3/13/02

Because whether it’s funding Al Quaeda, Pipline deals with the Taliban, Selling arms to Iran, dishonouring war heros or simply not caring about the largest attack on American soil. National security for the republicans means betrayng America to turn a buck.

But somehow if the raid had failed, President Obama would have pointed the finger of blame at George Bush. Heck, we’re 3 and a half years into the administration and they are STILL blaming Bush for the current unemployment statistics.

Maybe there’s a reason why you have to off topic to try to score a political point. When are Democrats going to stop equating all Republicans to GW Bush? Probably when it stops becoming politically advantageous. Backlash may come sooner than you’d care to admit.

OPSEC’s criticism is VERY relevant to the campaign and worthy of discussion! One thing that make this different then Swift Boats is the age, experience, and authority level of the people invoved. Kerry was a 25 year old LT jg in combat while Obama is a 50 year CINC. Probably Obama’s actions reflect worse judgment and political opportunism than what Kerry did.

if anything getting the term “OPSEC” into the public lexicon has got to be a good thing. Something for people to learn a little bit about before they focus back on Lady Gaga.

Nice cherry picking Itdweeb, but in that news conference Bush also goes on to say things like the mission and countering terror is bigger than one man, that he is more concerned with making sure troops are adequately supplied and for all he knows UBL was already dead, that he needs to focus more on making sure the strategy is working.

Instead of being the inflammatory little bitch that you are you might’ve posted a link to the news conference instead of pulling a single quote from a pretty long answer. Except for the part that you are nothing but an inflammatory little bitch.

Show Obama’s college records and maybe I’ll back him — Don’t cry about tax info until YOU SHOW IT ALL, My commander-in-chief! ALL OF IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The rhetoric on this page is pretty thick. Is there any center leaning people left?

Why the animosity? I’ve never seen such disdain, I mean actual hate for the POTUS. No one is forcing you to agree with there views, but there is no acceptance of any alternative to your views. There seems to me that you bashing the POTUS are unwilling to accept any comprise made, and will turn any positive done by this President into a negative.

I never seen such extreme hate for the president. You guys seem very extreme and self righteous.

All of these points are facts, but facts don’t matter when you are mad.

Maj0r, what are you so mad for? This bull i$ht your talking isn’t going to make anyone independent see it your way. You sound like a nutcase. STemplar you talk about partisan but you are so partisan. Why are you whining, it’s just not your side. Everyone can’t agree with STemplar you sound stupid complaining about politics while talking about politics.

Chaostician, what is your point. Bush was a bad president, most agree. The masses aren’t with you get over it.

WFT has to do with anything. Every week your asking for something new. You don’t feel stupid? I for one care about how much taxes Romney paid. It is Ironic to me that Romney paid 13 percent while I made 100k and paid 30%.

I am not complaining about the taxes I paid, but I’m not trying to hide my money either. How can you support big weapons programs that you don’t pay for. Don’t you see the Irony or are you too dense?

The national security leaks by the Obama WH were designed to achieve political gain. The disclosures were a dangerous OPSEC violations and, depending on who leaked, Federal crimes. This is a fact. Highlighting these leaks in an act of patriotism…not the partisan quacking found on the blog. The GOP, Foxnews, George W Bush, SOCOM, nor Mitt Romney had anything to do with the reckless and cynical actions of the Obama WH. American warriors could pay a price in blood for this chicanery; therefore, the Obama WH should be made to pay a political price for actions of their traitorous REMFs

Drivel?
Obama’s contempt for our military is not drivel. It’s as obvious as your weak — sophomoric comment.

Observe and be instructed, ladies and gentlemen, by how “AIR FORCE” attempts to refute the first claim by what AF calls “this tea party backed swift boat campaign”:

The charge: “The president announced the bin Laden raid before intelligence picked up from bin Laden’s compound could be fully exploited.”

AF’s response: “*none of the intelligence gathered has been detailed to the public except the fact porn was found in the compound and publicity announced.. PORN!”

Uh, “AIR FORCE”, the original complaint against Obama was about _timing_. Specifically, about the unseemly and amateurish promptness with which Obama made the announcement of the raid, thus signaling bin Laden’s terror associates to take protective measures against being rolled up themselves.

A complaint which your response does absolutely nothing to address or justify.

The factual reality behind that complaint is that if Obama had been able to resist taking his public victory lap for even 72 hours, the intel gleaned by the SEAL raiders would likely have generated further captures of bin Laden’s subordinates.

Instead, those subordinates were informed at once, along with the rest of the world, and were able to take escape and evasion actions at once. Obvious but hard to counter steps such as changing their locations, shifting to uncompromised backup comms channels, and abandoning cut-out couriers. Hard-won experience fighting these guys has proven that they do know their basic terror tradecraft and will use it to get away and regroup if given an opportunity. Obama gave them an opportunity to do just that.

Care to try again? I understand that straw is getting expensive these days, and you may have only one good straw man argument in you, so that’s okay if you’re incapable of response.

“driv·el/ˈdrivəl/
Noun:
Silly nonsense: “don’t talk such drivel!”

Anyone with a mentality higher than a boot heel should be a little more focused on the real issues facing this nation. Dislike Obama, just do it for some reason a little more tangible than this drivel (see above definition).

Perhaps you could enlighten me as to how my comment is juvenile.

My point is the blog proports to be a professional blog about defense. There are plenty of political blogs. I come here to learn. When the writers sink to the typical journalistic bias we see out there I’ve a right to point it out. There’s plenty of folks in the center out there. They are sick and tired of the bias also.

There isn’t a lot of animosity here or hate here. You must be sensitive or more likely, trying to portray any disagreement with the administration’s repeated classified leaks as disloyalty to the Obamafuhrer. Demonizing is so much easier than debating…

Greg you are expressing more hate “nutcase…whining…stupid” than anyone here who is constructively supporting the OPSEC group or is critical of Obama. If you haven’t seen such disdain or hate for the POTUS then you must have a pretty selective memory that filters out Democratic treatment of Republican Presidents. You also have a problem with confusing your opinions as facts.

“Obamafuhrer”

That’s actually quite impressive. Very few people are able to destroy every shred of their credibility in a single word.

My hat is off to you sir.

Airforce,
Thank you for spelling out the truth. Obviously these opsec Republican operatives are trying to pull the same swift boat shenanigans as they did in 2004. President Obama successfully commanded the operation to kill Bin Laden — thankfully, he did not throw in the towel like his lame a*s predecessor who said he was “…just not all that concerned about [bin Laden]…” Thank goodness Obama stuck with it and delivered upon his promise to go after Bin Laden.

If you think Obama’s hate for our military is just SILLY NONSENSE (DRIVEL) — you’re nuts.

His core beliefs have REAL CONSEQUENCES.

Please review our Rules of Engagement in Afghanistan — they’re contemptible — and they put our soldiers at unnecessary risk. In my opinion Obama’s policies are dangerous.

Yes — your comment is juvenile.

Consider yourself enlightened.

Still mad about bush taking all credit on the same day for killing sadam? I mean if he just waited 72hrs right?yeah it steams me too. Crawl back in your hole.

“I don’t know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don’t care. It’s not that important. It’s not our priority.“
– G.W. Bush, 3/13/02

Bush made it very clear what the Republican policy towards bringing the leader of the largest terrorist attack on American soil to justice… they couldnt care less.

“Mission Accomplished” after all wasnt the cature of Osama it was the start of an unrelated insurgency that would kill and maim tens of thousands of Americans, ruin Americas reputation in the world and lead to an economic crash a decade later. Indeed the first question Cheney asked after 911 was how can we use the attack as an excuse to attack Iraq. The neocons had spent years openly hoping for an attack (the position papers are all there to be read) and on 911 it was Christmas, Easter and thier Birthday all rolled into one they could hardly contain thier glee.

So why are republican SOF operators upset — because despite the extra resources that Obama focused on finding bin Laden in the end they screwed it up. You see this over and over again with these forces — poor planning and careless execution leads to a mistake which leads to panic and a cascade of failures.

Maybe the average american rube thinks that it was a glorious operation but enough information was leaked for the professionals to know what prevented us from rolling up the entire senior leadership of Al Queada was that a SOF officer when faced with Osama paniced, didnt fire a warning shot or to wound, but in that instant chose himself over Americas security for decades to come by shooting dead an unarmed old man.

I have no doubt that 90% of republican voters would have sacraficed American security in exactly the same way. And they would be just as angry when thier perfidy was put on public display.

There was no network to roll-up — the idiots shot the guy who knew where the network was.

Air Force the most important..and I mean Most important thing that is not being stated is that are you telling me that there are no staffers or liaisons to the House and Senate Intelligence committees who are privy to the funding and executuion of multiple black ops. Are you telling me that there are no pentagon staffers or aides who do not have knowledge of certain ops. There is no one at the NSA or NGA or CyberCom that have knowledge of certain aspects of Cyber War. Yeah right.…Only Obama knows. No one but him, he is the single point of failure and dissemantation of all things related to that video. If I am a Republican on any one of those agencies and I want to make the boss look bad all I gotta do is float a few of those tidbits out and then point the finger…

Hey Stormy, you’re missing the point.

Every 4 years in America we have these things called elections where Presidents are held accountable to the voters for the decisions they’ve made in office. If, for example, the Community-Organizer-in-Chief…er, POTUS…decides to compromise intelligence sources and methods and SpecOps tactics and OPSEC for the purpose of showering unearned glory upon himself, then the voters should get to decide whether that was a good use of the national security resources the President is entrusted with.

You might consider this a “stupid political game,” but a lot of American voters disagree with you, as is their right.

The current occupant of the White House opposed virtually every policy and strategy that led to the SEAL Team Six raid in Abbotabad: JTF GTMO, enhanced interrogation techniques, extraordinary rendition, Patriot Act. In fact, he promised on Day 1 of his Administration to shut down GTMO within a year (the fact that it is still open more than three years later testifies to the lack of wisdom of that decision).

Now the WH is leaking secret sources and methods that cost US taxpayers millions of dollars to develop and recklessly revealing operational details that erodes the tactical advantages our SpecOps forces count on when they carry out their missions.

Any unscrupulous WH can do this with impunity as long as those who are in a position to know hold security clearances and are obliged by their professional obligations to remain silent in the service to a faithless Commander-in-Chief.

What OPSEC is doing is leveling the playing field. Perhaps it is within the White House’s authority to declassify national security information (although there are legal channels and limits to that as well — Intelligence Identities Act, COMINT act — just ask Scooter Libby). Sometimes there are good reasons for doing so that advance our national security interests. This is not one of them. This is just the President’s team spiking the football for their own political gain. The American people deserve to know the national security costs of the Obamanauts’ end-zone dance as they head to the ballot box. Only Intelligence and SpecOps experts are in a position to tell them. OPSEC is doing the American people a tremendous service. Let the voters decide.

“Demonizing is so much easier than debating… ”

“Swift Boating” was a factual, effective, campaign to expose the lies and hypocrisy surrounding Senator Kerry’s record in Vietnam and subsequent anti-war activities. The OPSEC group is merely exposing the damage President Obama has done to U.S. security by exploiting the successes of our military and intelligence operations for purely political purposes. Obama’s only concern is reelection, nothing else matters. Its all about Obama, his courage, his inspired leadership, his ego. Hats off to OPSEC and many thanks to the Swift Boat group for their good work.

Hey, Air Farce, what are you, an E-2? You have obviously never worked in the intelligence business.
1. Revealing the “fact of” the Abbottabad raid would have caused all of UBL’s first tier leadership and trusted contacts to execute contingency plans. Knowing that US forces had access to UBL’s hard drives and documents, they would have gone deep underground. Would have been nice to have had a week or so head start on exploiting the intel take before the trail went cold. Oops.

2. While the existence of SEAL Team 6 is publicly acknowledged, their mission tasking is not. The US generally does not connect SpecOps targets with the units to avoid retribution to individuals associated with that unit. Oops.

3. The Paks are not our friends. Details about the Pakistani doctor who was a key source were compromised by US leakers, not the Paks, who were unwitting and unwarned of the Abbottabad raid because the Pak Army and ISID are loaded with Taliban sympathizers. Oops.

4. Obama opposed all the strategies and policies that led to the Abbottabad raid, which were formulated and developed under the Bush Administration. Obama just happened to be the guy in charge when it all came together. He deserves credit for the no-brainer decision to pull the trigger on the raid (+1 for Obama), but loses it all by compromising secrets to spike the football (-10 for Obama).

5. Bin Laden raid a “gutsy call?” Maybe among hand-wringing pacifist lefties and Foggy Bottom multilateralists who think UN permission is a prerequisite for any act of national self-defense. Not for anyone in the sensible center who lived through 9/11 and understands the Bush Doctrine statement on “safe havens” for terrorists.

6. Yeah, so POTUS is at the top of the military chain of command. Still, he was born on Third Base and he’s pretending he hit a home run.
7. You forgot to mention STUXnet. Huge compromise. Oops.

You paid 30% on $100K? You need a better tax accountant.

You also don’t seem to recognize the difference between capital gains and income.

Either way, Mitt Romney paid WAY MORE to support those big weapons program than you did, Greg.

Of course, this little income tax filings issue is a silly little distraction, a smokescreen for what should be the real issue: would four more years of Obama’s policies really be what’s best for America? Has Barak Obama earned re-election?

That’s not my point and you know it. If you are really who you present yourself to be in your posts then you are well aware of the line that you stepped across with that comment.

It was merely a reminder that if you are going to portray yourself as a commissioned officer in the United States military then you had damn well better act the part. If you can’t even do that when why should any of us pay attention to a single thing that you say?

Bottom line:

With a Republican in the Whitehouse Osama would still be living happily in his villa plotting against America.

I think your judgment is clouded by your affection for the President and your partisan loyalties. It is certainly not warranted by his record, especially on national security. This is the Presidential equivalent of stolen valor. You should be ashamed.

All speculation and no facts. True that HPSCI and SSCI members and staffers *may* have been briefed on the specific secrets that were leaked. However, there are reliable reports that are pointing directly toward the WH and none as of yet pointing elsewhere. It is also noteworthy that these leaks seem to favor the President, rather than Congressional Republicans. Do your homework.

LT, you are truly thick. Back to maligining the SEALs…“idiots,” huh?

Maybe we need to rephrase Torque’s argument for you using smaller words and shorter sentences:
1. SEALS shoot Bin Laden
2. SEALs pick up Bin Laden’s computer hard drives
3. Bin Laden’s hard drive ALSO knows where the network was.
4. Intel weenies find other bad guys.
5. SEALS shoot them, too.

Great post, Torquewrench.

Who the f**k are you to judge men 100 times your better, you weasel?

Of course it’s not your point. I was pointing out you were making mine.

I crossed no line. Obamafuhrer refers to the blind obedience demonstrated by some along with the highly emotional responses to any criticism. disagreement = “extreme hate”.

Oh, I think you portray your screen name perfectly :)

Come back when you want to discuss the issues and not the individuals.

A worthless and incendiary comment. You’re consistent.

It would be like someone pointing out it took a Democrat in the WH to screw up over half a dozen opportunities to get Bin Laden that resulted in 3000 dead on 911.

It is hilarious when people use the term “reliable report” better known as second hand knowledge. They take said second hand knowledge to pontificate as to what did or did not happen. Let’s be clear. If you’re on this blog you’re probably not 1. Either read into what actually happened or 2. Becoming what you hate by exposing known intelligence. Either way unless you were in the room when the Prez did or did not allow the release of classified information it’s all conjecture and posturing.

Memo To DOD BUZZ.

Your blog is absolute crap.

You are extremely heavy handed and despicably politically correct.

Or do you just delete posts that you disagree with?

BigDaddy…you should know better; 99.9% of everything you and I know comes from secondhand reports. In the intelligence business, as in the news business, we have sources. But consumers usually only get access to sources secondhand, through analysts (intel) and reporters (news). So we’re all really stuck with a lot of second– and third-hand knowledge and we have to make the best of it. Not so hilarious…really just ho hum.

As I understand it, IG investigations, and possibly DoJ investigations are underway. The facts will come out, as they did in the Valerie Plame affair, and we shall see in due time.

Was your post deleted immediately after you submitted it?

If so it was not for the content of your post but rather for length. Try reposting by splitting your comments between multiple posts.

Lt, Although capturing him may have been wiser, al queda is for the most part in shambles. There really iant much to “roll up”. That’s also a credit to Obama, as a democrat the drone strikes where a rather brave, and bold decision, one i personally disagree with. From everything publicly released it appears osama was an intelligence dead end, and extremely isolated. It is what it is. But that had to have been known before we got him. it wouldn’t surprise me at all if he was not to be taken alive. What good would it have done to capture a has been?

This story is a sort of Rorschach test.

If you are pro-Romney you will see even more proof that President Obama is the worst occupant of the office since at least Andrew Johnson.

If you are Pro-Obama you will notice that this is the best argument the Republicans can come up with against Obama’s national defense record.

And finally if you wear a uniform you will draw your own conclusions.

Every civilian administration leaks. Thats what they do and it is part of the price we pay for having a free and open society.

The term “quiet professionals” wasn’t coined merely because it sounds cool. If you wear the uniform you keep your mouth shut and do your job. If its glory and recognition that you are after you should have gone to Hollywood instead.

The administration i dont believe publicly claimed credit for stuxnet. When was it ever a secret that the US and Israel were involved? That was kicked around from the day it started and only a fool would think otherwise. It was too cute by half. The outrage isn’t justified in the slightest. Secrets don’t last long here never have never will. Are you implying iran didnt know? The only clueless party were the people paying for it. Secrets are generally kept from those with the power to halt it, the American voter. The advisary is almost always aware, to not recognize that is a complete rewright of the history of covert warfare. And frankly only thoroughly cowed partisans believe otherwise through willfull ignorance.

Secret Squid Obviously I do know better… when politics and the military intersect no one comes out clean I am a realist. Obama and Romney are a couple of rich guys who never served a day in the military and could give two squirts of you know what, about what you or I think. Semper Fi.

Absolutely. Well said.

Good grief, how infantile are you? Get your meds checked by your case manager. I dont agree with many of the Presidents policies but the man doesnt hate the military. Go fold a new foil hat you nut.

The only bottom line is youre a troll an with as much inflammatory crap as youve been posting l guess you mustve run out of bugs to.pull the legs an wings off of you freak.

Itdork2, you don’t think the dramatic up tick in drone strikes afterwards had anything to at all to do with it?

For the sake of “Simon” in the video, I hope that the face that we see at ~2’47 is not his real face. Or was it reverse psychology?

In any rates, those leaks must stop. Just like the video implies, leaking that United States altogether with Israel made stuxnet, is as grave as a public statement that big effort are being done on the cyber-offensive front. The day a non-us bank will be victim of a cyber-assault, we can expect america to be the prime suspect over Chinese, tank to these leaks and many more. These are making way more damages than wikileaks will never do.

The only thing politicians have not done yet is to get hollywod make a Bill Bond, and make it the most realistic movie ever, just to make OPSEC people famous. Oh and don’t forget to make it from a real mission, with the real people involved and to expose all the equipment and scheme used, this will make a f**** good movie. BTW, don’t forget to show your spirnet user-account and password, nothing is as real as a real user name and password.

Learn how to grammer and spell check what you write, it will make you look like less of an idiot andmaybe people will understand what you are saying .

I have counted at least 6 errors in your writing

Israel has been an ally of the U.S. since the 1960’s. Even with what happened with the U.S.S. Liberty, the Arabs and the Persians have killed far more of us.

You probably like poking kitten with sticks huh? You really are a sad trolling freak Oblat. You’ve gotten on here over time and tried passing yourself off as this slick metro intellectual and all these jet setting business deals you’re involved in. How you hop around the Pacific rim in this glamorous corporate life talking with mystery foreigners about how America is done. Like anyone who actually lives the life you try to pass off would actually have the time or inclination to post on some defense blog. Then of course there is the fact that you’ve gotten yourself banned what? two? or is it three times now? That speaks volumes to just how sad and pathetic a human being you are. I have nothing but pity for people like you in all honesty. The real world has conspired in whatever way to make someone like you who delights in posting anonymously on the internet in inflammatory ways in order to simply aggravate others. Clearly because the real world has denied you in some manner you feel a need to keep coming back to a virtual place you aren’t welcome and strike out because you can’t in the real world. You’re just plain sad.

Yea I’m sure Kenedy should have strangled Bin Laden at birth but then he didn’t get a memo saying “bin laden determined to attack America” or not even bother to read it because it was longer than one page.

From a Holocaust denier that is high praise indeed.

So we have what is pobably the largest OPSEC violation of modern times.

The video made sure to confirm a raft of things that were unconfirmed, speculative or even denied . But here we have the guys that would know saying yep you rounded up the right guys those were the guys we personally ran — and btw if your guy wasnt mentioned keep looking.

Future agents will be asking if they too will end up in a Republican video on youtube one day betrayed for partisan political advantage.

Perhaps they can consult with the Iranian hostages, the south vietnamese government or the CIA. Betrayal is somewhat of a Republican speciality.

OK– some folks need to go back and do some googleing. 1. SPECOPS operate sterile with plausible denial to protect the US Govt. 2. The order was given under the Bush admin to find capture or kill Bin Laden, once the order was given SPECOPS went under the radar and independent. 3. the so called war room photot was staged in a brieffing room — If you go back to the photos of the hurricane that hit the east coast last year you will see obama staning in front of the many monitors of the real very large war room. OBAMA and his staff took credit for something he had no real time knowledge of or control over and then threw a target on TEAM 6’s back.

Being a “Boss” means having responsibilities and duties over people, being loyal to them because their lives are in your hands, meeting immense obligationsto in getting the right things done and using high standards of conduct in doing so.
It doesn’t mean getting to do what you want for your own reasons with the lives of our troops. Just because releasing certain information isn’t against the law doesn’t mean it is the right thing to do. In fact, it can be perfectly legal and still be very wrong.
Nowadays, special operators are more directly connected to Presidential decisions than they were during, say, WWII. A network of former SOF personnel acting to point out actions of the military and political chain of command that they thing are wrong is probably a good thing.

Obama must go. He has no use for military personnel.

Wow, what a coincidence. The Movie “Oh-Dark Thirty” about the mission to kill Bin Laden is coming out. Next there will be a “September Dawn II” sequal to the movie about the Mountain Meadows Massacre.

Interesting, I just posted a rebuttal to this post and it was deleted by the adminstrator within 15 seconds of my posting it.

Let’s focus on the Tax returns?..The man paid 3 million in taxes and then gave 3 million more in charitable donations. There are only two types of Obama drones, lemmings and ostriches; you’re either following each other off the cliff or your head if buried deep in the sand. Wake up and stop the stupidity, the country is headed down the tubes and you’re worried about a someone’s tax returns. How about this; asking for the “Fast and furious” paper work, or information on ½ billion wasted on Solyndra, and Fisker the American Peoples tax dollars that went overseas and directly into two major Democrat donors pockets, or the fact that no one that went to Columbia University at the time Obama claimed to have been there every remembers the man? All you got are tax returns? Wow, you need to pull you head out because all you friends just jumped off the cliff.

I agree-and I likewise expect that the serious charges by these Patriots will like likewise prove true.
Even as the charges made by peers of “quick John” / Hanoi John F.Kerry ‚who served in Vietnam have
Never been proven false. There is a world of difference of the US Navy choosing not to investigate if the
Combat awards he wanted America to think he threw away as a winter soldier– and the award being
gratuitous or awarded on the basis of misrepresentation of fact. and I have seen mor ecreidble evidence in support of the latter charge.

I am at lost as to what critical information was leaked. This is a BIG FARCE BY A GROUP OF DISHONEST BA$TARD$ AND THE DOLLAR SIGNS SAY IT ALL. These men don’t give a $hit about America as we know it and love it.
I can only pray for those with such disgusts as to say anything about THEIR AND MY PRESIDENT, PRESIDENT OBAMA.
Some day they will need this country as I do and will be extremely remorseful for doing such things.
Frank Bowers: FIC; 100% DAV: Austin, TX

No way he has to stay. The good citizens need his health care program as an agent of 40 years I now of what I speak.
Frank Bowers, FIC; 100% DAV; Austin, TX

Leaks are real, the message is authentic and its consequences vicious; the only problem is that its purpose seems to be first of all to get, like some of the leaks, political impact. Look at the timing. Look at the message.

The whole society need to fix it. Changing president won’t be enough. Did Obama leaked the info about stuxnet? I don’t think so.

This article is nothing more than propaganda. Of course this video is going to impact the current Whitehouse occupant and negatively affect his bid to get reelected. Readers, don’t be fooled by the political left of center leaning of DoD Buzz.

What in the world are you talking about? Don’t be a moron.

I believe our operators. Telling the truth isn’t ‘Swift Boating’ as that implies dishonesty. It wasn’t dishonest in Kerrys’ case either. Kerry was and remains an elitist JFK wannabe whose motives for serving are more than suspect, they are transparent. Transparent by his own words and deeds. They were so before he got out of school. — -

Either classified and/or unnecessary details about the raid were leaked or they weren’t. As these details were limited to the knowledge of a handful of people it remains absolutely true someone let them out. Everyone who was privy to these details was accountable for their safekeeping and everyone of those folks worked for the administration in one capacity or another. — -

Putting the truth out in the open for those who vote is neither a crime nor a dishonest act. It is what any responsible patriot would do. The only ‘Swift Boating going on is the administrations attempts to slur the reputation of patriots and obfuscate the truth by placing blame on others. — -

It is the liars and traitors in the White House who leaked this information that should be held accountable, not those who expose them for what they are. That they did it for political reasons rather than reasons of principle and loyalty to the country is the real crime. They deserve whatever they get, and more.

Or somehow if the raid failed you would completely blame Obama.

Sorry pal, but there’s no plausible deniability when stealth helicopters are involved. There is no way, none, nada, no-how that a mission with four helicopters and 79 armed men penetrating to within a few miles of a foreign (nuclear-armed) capital is done without explicit go-orders from POTUS.

Those helos are avail world wide, not just US issue. Plausible denial has been standard doctrine for decades — was the daily norm in central and south America during the 80’s and 90’s — was std op when assisting Afghanistan against Russia in the 80’s. SPECWAR from the military, NSA, and CIA do it daily and only after the fact that it is admitted to. Thus is why they have thier own budget, internal chain of command, and resources separate from the regular military. In other words it is done all the time and is being done right now as you read this.

Go back to sleep oldretswo

What are you smoking?

Same swiftboating tactics used by the RNC with Kerry. The RNC & GOP have NO credibility. Obama did NOT reveal any secret info on the operation and nothing he did announcing it drew any attention to himself other than announce it. The speech he gave was one that gave credit to the team that killed Bin Laden and Americans who support the military (listen to the Presidents speech in full, not the edited version by the highly partisan fox).

The RNC and it’s cronies, because they couldn’t get Bin Laden, are simply throwing dirt on a proud moment ALL of America cheered when it happened. They are disgusting. Anyway, there is a book coming out written by an individual that was on the team that got Bin Laden, not some partisan, EX armchair hack used by the RNC, that totally refutes this rightwing nonsense.

Finally, we have a president, after 8 years of “mission accomplished” lies and greed, that actually gets things done, despite a usleless GOP congress. FOUR MORE YEARS!!!

So how much combat experieince do you have? When readying for an operation you want surprise to be your targets reaction. The El Quida “lieutenant Generals” under “Chief of Staff” Ben Laden, once they heard their “Pentagon” had been breached no doubt immediately headed for those 400 meter underground bunkers . Missed chances (10, 15, 20?) to apprehend some terrorist generals who are probably at this very minute planning assasination of Seal team 6 family members. We unfortunately live in a very dangerous world and the WW 2 slogan: “loose lips sink ships” is still as true as it was then.

They are the retired special operations men who looking back over their much decorated careers (silver stars, legions of merit, purple hearts galore) recognized the unprecedented leakage of OPSEC, which during the cold war would have been a death sentence offense (the Rosenbergs) blithly overlooked by all other watchdog functions. They felt they could not be true to their consciences if they had not produced what a prosecuters dream case would be with the simple mesage: Obama Administration SHUT UP.

Revealing OPSEC for political gain is akin to insider trading on Wall Street. Yes, Obama is acting Commander & Chief of the United States Military and reasonably should be expected to utilize the excellent impact analysis the Pentagon has at his disposal, which he obviously did not. Unfortunately this security failure of massive proportions is negligible compared to the economic impacts that are an economist nightmare come true. And even that is negligible compared to raping the capitalist system of America like a woman tied to a bed with a squadron of Jihadists taking their pleasure.

And “Shotgun” Cheney got how many deferments? And the rest of Bush II’s crew?

You do realize the article was talking about the present administration and candidates? Cheney isn’t running. Are you going to bring up Clinton also?

TO THE WANNA BEEEEEEEEE’S, LEAVE THE TRUTH OF ANY OP MISSION TO PRO’S !!!! all OPS GO IN AND TRY TO GET OUT WITHOUT DETECTION! HOW CAN IDIOTS WITH O COMBAT EXPERIENCE OR REPORTERS WHO WANT THAT “GOLDEN SHOT” KNOW ANYTHING UNLESS ON cnn OR wh MORNING BRIEF @ .……SUGGEST YOU SLEEP UNDER YOUR “COZY BLANKET” AND LEAVE THE “ABSOLUTE GUARDING OF THIS GREAT NATION” TO THOSE WHO COMMIT 24/7. OORAH.… OP DOC

I will propose a wager for you: If Obama releases his Occidental College and Harvard transcripts and the Possse Comtodist rules them genuine vote for Obama. If not , vote for Romney.

Yes, Bush may have tried to dismiss Ben Laden as inconsequential through a faulty understanding of El Quida operations. The intelligence of weapons of mass destruction was as best as we had sources for at the time. And someone never in police or military combat criticize a split second decision when someone known as a well seasoned killer makes a sudden move with a hand shielded from view by a bursa; the trained impulse is to fire to imoblize. Unfortunately in his eighties not surviving a chest wound even though missing the heart and other prime organs is a reality of “shit happens”. Besides would someone so dedicated to Islam even say a word if captured? Years at Guntoamo has demostraded the zealots unwillingness to cooperate.

How do you know, are you in the highes level of intelligence services? Just when did we finally succeed in getting a Pakistani Doctor (obvisisely intelligent) to provide the HUMIN? In this instant world electronics has provided us it must be a giant effort to understand the slow movement in the world of Islam where it may take decades to inflitrate into a position to uncover any significant intelligence. Your obvious prejudice against Republicans is easy to see through as one who makes a statement that shows total lack of understanding. Then again progressives would not recognize a fact if it stood before them for weeks or months.

Yes, majrOd, I am acutely aware that your comments apply to the present candidates. I just find it interesting that so many of the Bush people were draft dodgers, or like Shrub, used politics to get into the Texas Air National Guard and then refused to go to Vietnam (Shrub and Perry) and all of their prognostications about Iraq turned out to be false. Yet the right wingers all gave them a pass, yet now the same people attack the present Democratic candidates for not being strong enough on defense. And what military experience does the Republican slate have to offer other than attacking women’s rights? Where was the righteous indignation from the Right when Shrub, Rummy, Vieth and Cheney were whipping up the war fever? Why was anyone who opposed them labeled traitors? Now it is the same BS from the Right…anyone who does not support Mitty and Ryan are evil!!!

Gripe, I have seen every shade of political comment in these blogs. Sour Grapes must be your disposition. Yes, they are pro-military as their name indicates. What would expect of a DoD news letter? Progressive drillal? Islamic sharia support? Obama praise?

Considering that the largest string of foreign policy and national security disasters in US history occurred under the republicans watch — and none of their candidates for the executive branch have any military experience either (not that George W Bush’s “experience” helped him in the slightest): national security is a topic the republicans are ill-equipped to bring up.

The G W Bush administration exposed for all to see that the republican-induced vision of better leadership in wartime was nothing more than a hallucination — and that hallucination committed our armed forces to battle without any clear political objectives, no definition of victory, no strategy to win, no shared sacrifice on the part of our citizenry, and no plans to bring our troops home. And that doesn’t count the economic damage — the worst economic/financial crisis since 1929.

And they left behind a military at its lowest state of readiness since Viet Nam.

The damage done to this nation was greater than anything the former USSR could’ve ever imagined in their wildest dreams — and according to multiple years of NIE’s — gave victory to those who wish the US ill.

So much for all the flag-waving, loving of America, and support for the military. What the republicans claim (or claimed) is one thing: but it wasn’t in any way supported by the reality — or the RESULTS.

For a liberal this is an amazing well reasoned piece. You are in the wrong party friend. Or is it just the Progressives have taken over the power in the Democartic Party just as the RINOs are at the top of the Republican Party. The Tea Party is where you really belong if logical reasoning is your forte. We value sound reasoning like the Founders used to establish the US Constitution.

Oh yah, Chicago Politics have produced the most banana republic like chariteristics like betrayal, cheating, fraud, and bullying. Obama was trained in Chicago politics and still practices it. It was Carter who “sold out” Vietnam. Acutualy as the Greatest understander of human nature said: ” the human heart is evil above all understanding; who can comperhend it?”. It has happened to the less moral of both parties. And the ever true: “power corrupts, the more power the more corruption”. This is why our wise Founders told us to keep Government “small”.

Well it is good to have some hands on experieince telling us the truth. The Bush Administration gave the : find, capture or kill order” that SPECOPS went underground with. So Obama like other low lifes (I have had it happen to me in my career) grabs credit for the accomplishments of others. I was quite peeved when it happened to me. American SPECOPS people are understandably peeved Obama “grandstanded” on their accomplishment. I salute the retired SPECOPS people who made the documentery. The wisest Man who ever lived once said: The Truth shall make you free. Unfortunately that is only true if we take action on it. Our only chance is November.

This is not a political blog. Plenty can be said of the tax cheats and radicals in this administration but it wouldn’t be helpful nor does it address the bias in this article I was discussing. Sorry, I come here for defense analysis to move forward not political posturing to place blame.

BTW, “Shrub, Rummy, Vieth and Cheneyy” aren’t running either. Stuck in the past huh or is it’s Bush’s fault the only line you know?

“Obama opposed all the strategies and policies that led to the Abbottabad raid, which were formulated and developed under the Bush Administration.” perhaps you could show an example for thoses two statements.
