Congressman proposes ‘green-on-blue’ HASC hearing

The House Armed Services Committee chairman did not commit to holding a hearing this fall on the rash of “green-on-blue,” or insider attacks, that have killed ten U.S. service members in Afghanistan the past two weeks. Although his office hinted it was a strong possibility.

Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., who has deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan as a Marine officer, wrote to Rep. Buck McKeon, the committee chairman, to request a hearing or briefing from military leaders on what steps the U.S. is taking to stem these attacks.

Hunter, a member of the armed services committee, called the spike of insider attacks, 32 in 2012, “alarming.” McKeon’s said the attacks on U.S. soldiers from supposed Afghan allies has “commanded significant attention this year.”

President Obama spoke Monday about his concerns with the insider attacks saying the U.S. must be careful not to scuttle partnerships built between U.S. and Afghan forces. However, the training of Afghan security forces can’t leave U.S. troops too “vulnerable,” Obama said.

Pentagon officials have said they are re-evaluating the eight-step vetting process the U.S. and Afghan armies use when checking potential Afghan army and police recruits for connections to the Taliban. U.S. troops have also started the “guardian angel” program where a U.S. service member watches the back of a fellow trainer to protect from a surprise attack.

Claude Chafin, McKeon’s spokesman, pointed out the armed services committee has sponsored two hearings already on “blue on green” issues. The subject was also discussed during a series of hearings held this year to discuss the future of the Afghan National Security Forces. That’s not to say the committee will not hold another hearing on the subject this fall.

“None of this should be considered the final word on this troubling trend, but part our ongoing effort to help manage the risks our war fighters face in Afghanistan,” Chafin said.

No one in Washington wants to threaten our commitments to the Afghan national government.

EASY AS PIE — Tell the afghans since they refuse to fully commit to democracy and continue to fall back on terrorist tactics against us we see them as a faile effort and future threat THEN START BLOWING UP ALL THE INFRASTRUCTURE WE PAID FOR AND BUILT AND KILL ALL WHO OPOSE US ON OUR WAY OUT OF THAT HOLE. It’s all they understand or respect.

I doubt that will work. You have Pakistan funded fighters behind much of this. The regular person on the street (unless they are women who hold no power) probably wants us out of there, more than they perceive any gain from what we give.

That leaves only the crooks like Karzai, but he’s more concerned abou covering his immediate a$$ and those of his cronies, than taking a long term view of things.

No one in Washington wants to admit this ia failure because (not in order of importance):

1. It would mean that many serviceman died in vain to nation build.

2. It would mean another lost counterinsurgency war.

3. It would mean turning our back on commitments to foreign partners.

4. It could possibly mean being mired in Afghanistan well into someone’s second term.

blame GAME OES ON DESASTE CPMS CLOSER.

Rep Hunter.…all this hearing BS is a PC attempt.…… like a day late, and a dollar short, to quote an old worn out phrase.…How high will our casualty rate be by the time this hearing crap gets in high gear??? Another of those high paid talkers, justifying their jobs to themselves!!!

With the greatest of respect to the fallen, we trained 22,500 CIF dudes in Iraq and avoided blue on green by taking all ammo off them when in secure bases (we obviously lied and talked their officers into doing this for THIER protection; always had a full team geared up at ranges to ‘protect THEM’ ; and so on. I think it’s the way you sell the sizzle

So.…umm…et me get this straight we spend hundreds of billions of dollars in Afghanistan.…get mad then all that money is wated aaaaannnnddd we have another enemy. Great…yeah .…lets follow your plan.…why not run for President while you are at it?

Learn how to spell, what the heck language is that?

The money is already wasted and they are still our enemy in reality and per their religion.

I think we should take ALL ammo from them when in a “SECURE” area! If they don’t like it, tell them they can sleep outside the berms at night and come inside when theywant to behave like gentlemen and surrender their arms and ammo to MP’s. then they can be fed and watered like the “enlightened” ones in their army. Then when we go out with them, keep a SAW gunner in the rear to keep watch and if one of them gets hinky, BLOW HIS A** AWAY!!!
