CentCom measures risk of losing carrier

The lack of a second carrier in the Persian Gulf limits the ability of the U.S. to deter Iran but the U.S. retains enough combat power in the region to to deal with any aggression by Tehran, Marine Gen. James Mattis, head of Central Command, told Congress Tuesday.

“Obviously, it’s more difficult for me to reassure our friends and deter Iran” without the second carrier Mattis told the Senate Armed Services committee.

The U.S. military cancelled the deployment of the USS Harry S. Truman in order to cut the budget following the onset of sequestration and the potential extension of the continuing resolution. Navy officials said they had prepared to deploy the carrier to the Gulf, but lacked the funding.

Existing U.S. forces in the Mideast “can buy time” for a second carrier to deploy, Mattis said. The Marine four-star told the Senate Armed Services Committee that he was on board the Truman two weeks ago and the carrier’s commander assured him that the ship and its air wing would be prepared if called.

However, Iran still remains a threat, Mattis said. He noted Iran’s potential nuclear threat, its maritime threat to regional sea lanes, its cache of short– and medium-range ballistic missiles, its network of illicit activities throughout the Middle East, and its growing malicious cyber activities.

“Despite significant economic sanctions and increased diplomatic isolation within the global community, Iran continues to export instability and violence across the region and beyond,” Mattis said.

Mattis warned against any potential enemy trying to take advantage of the United States’ reduced aircraft carrier presence in the Middle East. The Pentagon has opted to keep one carrier, instead of two, in the region in order to meet budget demands.

“That would be very ill-advised,” Mattis said. “It would be their longest and their worst day.”

“Obviously, it’s more difficult for me to reassure our friends and deter Iran” without the second carrier.…”

Yet, “our friends”, who derive benefit from our CVBG presence, aren’t helping with the costs. As we progress towards energy self-sufficiency, these “friends” will become less important economically & politically. How much aid in cash and manpower went to the Iraqi insurgency from these “friendly” countries? Few of us who lived through the artificial oil crises of the ‘70s will shed a tear. We’ve had CVBGs on station or close by since the Iran Hostage Crisis back in 1979. Has this deterred Iran from developing nukes?

Perhaps its time to let “our friends” sample the world post pax Americana?

I never really buy into this “we’re there to protect our friends” argument from US Commanders. Carriers are in the region purely and exclusively to support American interests, period. To pick one example of US interest in the region, if tanker routes didn’t pass near Iran, the US wouldn’t be there. To project American military power where Americans want it to be, then remove it and suggest that someone else should pick up the slack, is false logic.

The questions is, is that 2nd Carrier Battle Group dramatically affecting regional geopolitics? Perhaps. If its removal results in increased or otherwise altered aggression from some States, then those countries with interests in the region will respond as they see fit.

Now if the US decided to remove all ships from the region, reduce its Global Reach to, say, Continental Reach and brought home the tens of thousands of troops it has stationed in the region, then Iran might be interested in some offensive ops…Let me know when we get there…

Let’s arm the locals and cross our fingers. That always works…heh.

So US-Israel relations will become less important with American progress toward energy independence? How is that exactly?

Umm…Mike, it’s in America’s interests to have strong alliances, isn’t it?

Some things are best done ourselves; some things are simply nasty to deal with, whoever does it.

Fact of the matter is: Having a single CVBG on station increases the risk to those sailors assigned to the Carrier and associated Strike Group/Support Group ships. The practicality of a successful attack against a single CVBG is exponentially greater than when there are TWO CVBG/CVSG’s present…So in essence the Navy is “hanging it out” and can only hope Israel provides the USN with enough advanced warning of a potential strike into Iran so that we can get our assets out of the Persian Gulf and into the North Arabian Sea where they can increase their chances of successfully countering any Iranian counter strike — and still be close enough to accomplish their mission.

Maybe it’s time for one of “our European Allies” to pony up one of their carriers…HAHAHAHAHAHA.…

This is why Centcom needs to have a pocket carrier such as the Juan Carlos I LHD or a French Mistral LHD. That way if their CVBG has gone home, they have a pocket carrier with capability for JSF, harriers, helos and room for Marines and spec ops.

Sad to see the military let itself be a pawn in Obama’s political sequestration game.

Sad to see the military let itself be a pawn in Boener’s political sequestration game.

Aurora — Maybe. Then again the Saudis could probably afford to build their own nukes also. Mattis also testified that a Sunni Arab country’s senior leaders told him they would pursue their own nuke if Iran got one.

I agree with your sentiment but one must be careful to not cut off one’s own nose.

Progressing to energy self sufficiency? THAT’s funny!

Meech equals Independent !

Not much choice. He’s the boss though you’re right on singing the “sky is falling”.

Isn’t that why we have the Ponce there?

A baby carrier isn’t going to do much if we have to take on Iran’s nuke program.

The Tea Baggers are the one to blame for this. The Tea Baggers are up for nothing but to shut down government, reduce our home land security, and to get kick backs from corporated lobby fascious pigs.

Obama is only worried about his Golf game.

It’s sad to see our Military being manipulated by the lack of cooperation and consideration of our Elected Representatives! This is not a one sided problem, this is a problem that stems from decades of a poor source for Political Representation, Presidents on down caving to the special interest groups and foreign countries being allowed to influence how “Our United States”, are to be governed. We are no longer a country for the people by the people, we are a country for the money and by the power. We have gone from being the Bread Basket of the world to being the waste can of the world. When it comes down to the problems of our Politicians, look at the people who put them their! Politics is no longer about who is going to do the best job, it is more who is going to screw the Country the least. We don’t have the Eisenhower’s, Trueman’s or the Reagan’s anymore (yes I know there are other great presidents but I just cant recall the names right now..). When we are able to do away with the Electoral Collage, invasive news coverage and big business sticking their noses into the minds of the American People maybe then we can get someone in office who can start to turn this Country around, until then suck it up we have a few more years until we get to do this all over again.

I think its the military that’s doing the manipulation. They’ve been given over 5 trillion dollars by U.S. citizens over the last 10 years and now they can’t come up with $20 million to send the Truman to the gulf?

Anytime anyone uses the term “Tea Baggers”, it immediately shows their ignorance, & lack of homework on any subject, outside of Hollywood.
I do not belong to the Tea Party, but at least am smart enough to understand what they are trying to accomplish.
So spout your ignorance, & we will all laugh at the fool , from oldschool.

Sometimes, it depends on who the alliance is with. Many of our past alliances have not been worthwhile.

The general is saying what they want to hear in my opinion. In my opinion, it is essential that a second carrier group be in this area, but not in same proximity. It’s first priority should be to keep the sea lanes open, second, backup the other carrier force since Iran could use short range missile with nuclear warhead to hit carrier, and lastly and more as a deterant as others said by showing our military muscle power in the region because of all the terrorist activity to protect American mideast allies in the area. Who pays for it, is a question, as someone said in congress and the pentagon, we either pay now, or it will be at a much higher cost in the immediate and foreseeable future. This economic crisis and the budget cuts is going to effect our national security domestic and abroad that will be worse than it was even before 911 and the attack on the USS Cole.

You obviously haven’t read about the origins of sequestration — it originated with Obama.

<Sarcasm> Yeah because out of control spending is never a problem — we should just keep spending like there is no tomorrow! </sarcasm>

The U.S. policy makers must not once again go mirror-imagining how others think, assuming leaders of other countries are civilized enough to reason according to American values. A show of force or a carrot-and stick approach meant sweet dash-all to thought-controlled backward human specimen that is prepared to nuclear wipe out Israel even if the consequence of their action would be MAD — mutually assured destruction. It would have been worth it.

Everyone should take the time to watch the movie “Red Dawn”. I am concerned that the politicians, both Republican and Democrats allowed budget cuts to the military and federal government. Were they intentional and by whom? What you see in the movie is as it is portrayed and has happened in other countries under the same conditions. When a countrys’ military is made “weak”, whether intentionally or thru neglect…those are the immediate results people can expect.

Nicky, Centcom does not own any assets of their own, they are a supported Commander and they temporarily own forces that are deployed to their Area of Responsibility. Thus they are not going to “have” one of the LHDs that you listed. If CENTCOM wanted an LHD, they would place a forces request for an LHD and if the need was there, A US LHD would be deployed to them. The US hasvery capable LHDs that are already interfaced with US Command and Control, logistics and other systems. Why would they need to buy a French or other version?

Nice plan but sadly, Saudi Arabia has not allowed the US to use their bases for other military actions and when they did, they placed conditions on what the US was allowed to do. An example of this was in the first gulf war where once Kuwait was liberated, Saudi told the US that they would not allow us to take Baghdad and still have Saudi in the coalition which included being able to use Saudi bases.

Come on this is a small cut in defense Saudi Arabia will let us use there bases and other countries if needed and anyway it will not be a sea base war but land base war and the Saudi have F-15s and Migs and the other Arabs countries have F-16 maybe it time for them to fight there own war as for Israel it can kick butt on it own but if they need help we will be there the aircraft at NATO is only a couple of hours away now what hurt is all the federal worker going to loose there jobs but there is alot of waste in the DOD and the federal contractors are ripping the America people fat cats that use taxpayers money to gain huge profits I saw first hand how this happens the DOD needs reform on its control on DD-250s and stop the waste.

I have long been an advocate for our so called allies throughout the world, South Korea, Japan, Europe, Saudi Arabia, to share the pain of defending the world against an aggressor state by helping to pay a portion of the cost for keeping a US presence in those regions most effected. De we really need troops in Europe, do we expect Russian tanks to come through the Fulda gap, I think not. Either contribute to the cost of keeping them there or bring the troops home and shut down the bases.

IT’S A SAD DAY WHEN YOU CAN SEE 4 CARRIERS TIED UP IN NORFOLK. ALL BUNDLED UP LIKE A PACK OF PUPPYS WAITING TO BE FED.

SH1 RET

Building new housing in Germany, Korea and Japan.

And STILL in Bondsteel. wtf?

i think we call the Gattors

I think the countries in the middle east who are not experiencing liberation from Arab Spring have the financial resources to fund their own defense. So let them, lets not have any Americans in the middle east anymore. Then they can get all worked up over Russia, China, Europe, or whoever decides to fill in the vacuum.

That puts in in a bad spot since we left Iraq we have no land air bases to counter lack of Navy air power. Id say send more USAF squadrons to the theater but now we have no air bases there. Hate to say maybe we should just leave there no use in leaving one vulnerable carrier there by itself.

The Ponce doesn’t have the capacity of an LHD… If the new USS America were ready we could send her along with a load of Harriers (or send her to a less “active” place on the planet, and send a second CVN to the gulf).

Cheers

Obama, in all fairness, hardly alone.

Both John “I got 98% of what I wanted out of the sequestration” Boehner and Mitch McConnell voted for, and urged their fellow party members to vote in favor of the sequester.

No need to wait for the USS America. ANY of the current LHDs are fully capable of hosting VSTOL and rotary wing aircraft that are in the inventory and already do so routinely.

Clearly our tax payers dollars are going right where they need to: F-35 development.

Anyone following the story knows the Republicans, driven by their tea Party faction, decided to keep the Sequester, to realize the savings, for better or for worse. The odd part is how no one wants credit for taking the savings.

One United States Aircraft Carrier, plus one United States Attack Submarine in the Gulf is enough to kick all the ass we need in ragtown. One Trident submarine in a nearby ocean will retain the ability to “reach out and touch” our Iranian “friends”: just so they can feel secure .… The only reason this war has taken so long is because we have these stupid “surgical” strikes and refuse to obliterate entire countrysides. If this had been conducted like it should have been (ie like against the Nazi) , then we would long ago have recreated a society of decent people. But no, now we are going to have to do this all over again in less than twenty years.… unless China France or Germany steps up and does their part. But, even then, if they commit the same mistake, and not obliterate them, we will all be here again.

The US uses very little of the oil from the Gulf. Most goes to Europe, Japan and China. Let them send their ships and their money to protect ocean access. Plus, only by leaving will our “allies” decide whether they should protect their interest and send their forces. (Even small carriers would show strength.) If they don’t, then it’s obviously not in our interests to defend them.

We have thousands of nukes, and, as pointed out, a single Trident submarine can take Iran out. What’s to worry? The general is just trying to bait the Iranians into another war so we can keep the Pentagon going as a jobs programs.

err. benefactor…

I meant beneficiary

The fight is less about terrorism and more about economics. The US is fighting to enforce its brand of capitalism on the globe.

Who is the benefactor of global capitalism?

A) The GI after his tour of duty
B) The Global Financier

How about pre-deploying at Sterling Naval Base in Western Australia.
Friendly power, close to the action.

A does not follow from B. When are we going to stop trying to play solitaire with the rest of the world ?

Your fear makes you weak.

How you connect this to the F-35 is a mystery.

Well, true but:
1. There was rarely a two carrier presence in the Arabian Gulf before 2010.
2. Even in the last few years, the two carriers hardly ever operated together so they didn’t generate any increased protection, but did double the number of targets.

Don’t see why the Europeans (or anyone else) would do this senseless thing (getting a CVBG stuck in the bathtub that is the Gulf).

Excellent point. The “normal” LHD can do a good deal. However, my suggestion of the America is due to the lack of the well deck — which makes it essentially a CV without a catapult or angled flight deck. That gives it more room for aircraft, fuel, spare parts etc.

Cheers.

What about the the base in Bahrein?

…“The only reason this war has taken so long is because we have these stupid “surgical” strikes and refuse to obliterate entire countrysides. If this had been conducted like it should have been (ie like against the Nazi) , then we would long ago have recreated a society of decent people”..
Wich war are you talking about? America is not in war against Iran, as far as I know, and the Iranian regime however reactionary it is, hasn’t started a genocide like the Nazis did, has it?

Very close to Iran Iran could launch its own massive sir strike to destroy that base.

Well, never thought the GOP would go to such extremes to protect the “job creators” but they are that crazy. TO PROTECT THE RICH. Thats almost comical. How many here have a 1M bank account? Yah, me neither.

Right, but it would still make much less damage to the US military, and be of much less strategic consequence than the loss of a CVBG

Why? The Aussies made a long term deal with China for coal and other natural resource exports. So why are we Americans bothering to send US Marines and ships to Australia to protect them from their Chinese partners? Alternatively, the Aussies will now have enough money to build their own ships, which they will use to defend themselves against American interlopers, who really have no real dog in this fight anymore.

You are naive. Review what has happened from within the Middle East since the 1970’s.

That’s a good point Taxpayer. Why are we Americans bothering to send US Marines and ships to Australia to protect them from their Chinese partners?

Big whoop. AU needs to keep their economy afloat without being sold into debt slavery like us. If the economy of AU drops, who will buy our military hardware?

Chances are that CVBG will get caught up in the initial strike against Bahrain. They would probably be the first targets of anti-ship missiles, followed by a SRBM strike against Bahrain.

If we could get rid of Obama as our President, then we could elect someone that loves this country and will do anything to protect it from it’s enemies.Obama never grew up in America as most of us did so he doesn’t care about it as we patriots do.He wants to get rid of the constitution and our freedoms as our forefathers enacted and turn America into a socialist government. He is so jealous of our free ways and wants to change that forever. That’s why he will do anything to prevent the United States from remaining the worlds only super power.

I’m a retired Master Chief Petty Officer. Served on the USS Nimitiz, Kick ass vessel. The most intrinsic component in any first line of defense; is our Aircraft Carriers, Period. What if the US got out of the war business and got into things more productive like research and affordable college education for her people?

I guess the global capitalists want to keep everything for themselves…

Who is benefitting from all this global posturing?

This seems to be part of Obama’s “first step” towards a leaner and meaner military. I’m sure there is more to come.

That’s why Centcom needs an LHD, SSK, or even a pocket carrier than the be forward deployed at Guam or Diego Garcia

Do you hear voices in your head?

I don’t think there is a need for us troops in Western Europe/EU (eg. germany) other than for the sake of them being closer to the middle east and other potential trouble spots.

Good Future,Wiseman knowes will be attacccck on newyork london paris telavive

Wise man said it will be an Attack on newyork london paris yerusalem opposit distanses

Shut up and get a life you loser! You’re just like those Hollywood idiots who take everything the country has to offer but give nothing in return .

There it is!!!

Obama in all his wisdom is leading the us down the road of distruction. Obama is not the leader of men..but the little man of kena carrying a spear thinking the world is afraid of him. Little does h know that he is doomed for defeat.

You are assuming that Israel is going to give advance warning.
Fact of the matter is that, like North Korea, Iran was able to get its nuclear program up and running, in secret.
The Iranian government has been able to use the Bush administration fiasco of WMD in Iraq to a most effective advantage.
The Wikileaks information was most useful in uncovering spies and once they captured a satcom they were able to pinpoint transmissions.
Now, possession of such material gets one executed.
After about 160 executions they pretty much cleaned house.
I am almost 55 years old so what I do is a non issue at this point so I can say this.

What I am worried about is North Korea. They have purchased over two million bottle rockets from China for their missle program and capable of delivering an A bomb to New York now with those bottle rockets that are tried and true for decades. Doc Ferguson

CALM DOWN PEOPLE AND LOOK AT THE SITUATION CLEARLY. ASK YOURSELF WHO IS THE ENEMY AND WHO CLASSIFIED THEM AS THE ENEMY? WHO ARE THE TERRORIST NATIONS AND WHO CLASSIFIED THEM AS SUCH? WHAT IS IT THE TERRORIST NATIONS DO TO BE CLASSIFIED AS TERRORIST? AND WHO IS DOING THE CLASSIFICATION? THE ANSWER TO ALL OF THESE QUESTIONS ARE SIMPLE. FIRST THESE NATIONS ARE ALL SEEKING TO GO THEIR OWN WAY, THEY WANT TO BE INDIVIDUAL NATIONS THAT DO NOT WANT TO BE TOLD WHAT TO DO AND WHEN TO DO, OR HOW TO DO IT. AMERICA DOES NOT WANT TO BE TOLD WHAT TO DO, BY OTHER NATIONS. SO WHY IS AMERICA NOT CLASSIFIED AS A TERRORIST NATION? BECAUSE IT IS AMERICA’S JOB TO DO THE CLASSIFYING AND THE POLICING OF NATIONS. ASK YOURSELVES WHO MADE AMERICA THE GLOBAL COP? AND WHY IS A GLOBAL COP NECESSARY? THE WORLD HAS BEEN REDUCED TO TEN EMPIRES (TEN TOE BEAST OF REVELATIONS)
AND AS SUCH AMERICA IS PRESENTLY THE BIGGEST BANKRUPT DEBTOR NATION IN HISTORY, IN ORDER FOR AMERICA TO CONTINUE AS IT HAS IT HAS TO DO WHAT ITS OWNER AND MASTER THE FEDERAL RESERVE TELLS IT TO DO. AMERICA IN NOTHING MORE THAN A HIRED HIT MAN FOR THE FEDERAL RESERVE. FORGET ALL THE PATRIOTIC BULL PUCKY THEY FEE FEEDING YOU, AMERICA DIED IN 1932, WITH THE NEW DEAL NATIONAL BANKRUPTCY. AMERICA IS THE ELITE SLAVE STATE AMONG THE TEN SLAVE EMPIRES. AMERICA IS THE ONLY REAL TERRORIST NATION ON THE PLANET.
AND IT WILL SOON BE TREATED AS SUCH BY THE FEDERAL RESERVE, SOME OF YOU MAY KNOW THAT THERE ARE BANKRUPT COUNTIES IN AMERICA PRINTING THEIR OWN CURRENCY AND BY PASSING THE SO CALLED “FEDERAL GOVERNMENT” AND THE REAL GOVERNMENT THE FEDERAL RESERVE.
PRINTING LOCAL OR NATIONAL CURRENCY IS AN ACT OF SOVEREIGNTY, THE ONLY RECOGNIZED SOVEREIGNTY GLOBALLY IS THE FEDERAL RESERVE, THE FED DOES NOT LIKE COMPETITION, THAT WHY CUBA HAS BEEN EMBARGOED FOR THE LAST 50 YEARS, THE SAME WITH NORTH KOREA OR ANY MUSLIM, OR SOUTH AMERICAN NATION THAT ALSO PRINTS ITS OWN CURRENCY AND TELL AMERICA WHERE TO GO AND WHAT TO DO WHEN IT GETS THERE. THE ONLY THREAT THAT AMERICA FACES IS FROM ITS OWN CREATION THE FEDERAL RESERVE. AND CHINA CAN NOT BE AND WILL NOT BE THE NEXT RULING SUPER POWER UNTIL THE FEDERAL RESERVE APPOINTS CHINA IN THAT POSITION.
THE CHRISTIAN WORLD AND THE MUSLIM WORLD MUST DISAPPEAR BEFORE THE OWNERS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE WILL OPENLY DECLARE THEMSELVES OWNERS AND MASTERS OF THE WORLD,
THIS IS SOON TO HAPPEN. STOP LISTENING TO YOUR SO CALLED ” LEADERS.” YOUR LEADERS ARE ELITE SLAVES, BUT SLAVES JUST THE SAME, THEY DO AS THEY ARE TOLD, OR THEY END UP LIKE THE KENNEDY BROTHERS, SADDAM HUSSEIN, JAMES FORESTALL AND ALL OTHER PEOPLE THAT WANT TO PLAY PATRIOTIC AMERICAN HERO. IF YOU WANT TO KNOW WHO RUNS THE WORLD AND WHO CONTROLS AMERICA, ALL YOU HAVE TO KNOW IS, WHO ATTACKED THE U.S.S. LIBERTY, KILLED NEARLY 40 AMERICAN SAILORS, WOUNDED ANOTHER 170, NEARLY SUNK THE SHIP, AND WHEN THE BLOOD, THE SMOKE, THE WRECKAGE WAS CLEARED, AMERICA APOLOGIZED TO THE ATTACKING NATION FOR OUR SHIP INTERCEPTING THE WEAPONS THAT THAT NATION’S MILITARY HAD FIRED.
I CAN’ TELL YOU THE NAME OF THE ATTACKING NATION, BUT THAT IS ILLEGAL, IF GERMANY HAD DONE THE ATTACKING I WOULD HAVE ALL THE WORLD THANKING ME FOR REVEALING HER AS THE ATTACKING NATION. IN FACT, IF I NAMED GERMANY AS THE CULPRIT, THE U.S. GOVERNMENT WOULD GIVE ME A MEDAL.

Your foil hat has obviously caused enough static buildup to accumulate in your body that you have shorted out not only your Caps Lock but also your spell check.

Have a nice day.

And watch out for all that hate, it will burn you up inside.

It certainly suggests to our enemies that we are weaker now, thus increasing the chance that those enemies will try to make a move detrimental to our national security.

I think that both the Republicans and the Democrats are playing the same dangerous game. Even more unfortunately I believe that our military leaders are doing so also. Their grandstanding, cutting carrier deployments and such instead of DOD fat and foolish, immensely expensive programs that don’t in any way work as they were supposed to is criminal. I’m more angry right now with our military leaders than the politicians. I expect it from the politicians.

Yes, the voice of reason.

Amen to that! I was SHOCKED & HORRIFIED to see those pictures of “battleship row”! Dear lord, one terrorist nuke would take them all out along with a numbers of amphibious carriers/ships, Ticos, Burkes & support ships, never min the port and city. The only thing I can see being done is rotate the carrier groups so there’s never more than two there at a time. This is a huge cost of base realignments (i.e. — “CLOSINGS”).

Tim-Tim: A) What’s wrong with that. B) Add democracy to your comment. C) We have the God gien right to defend oursolves and our national interests. D) Who is your “Global Financier? Names please.

Answer: It’s in our national interest.

Ramon: You can actually say “Israel” if you want to in the United States. The attack on the USS Liberty pisses me off also, but I’m not going to stop being an ally of Israel because of that tragedy. Does Israel try to influence American public opinion and U.S. policies? Of course, we and all nations do the same thing.

As far as local currencies, it’s illegal and as far as America not wanting to other nations to print their own money? Are you nuts? Come on, that’s plain wacky.

The question no body seems to address is where are the Air Force resources? Land based Ops can cover the absence of a battle group. Controlling the air is a major deterrent. The battle group has the evasive card to play. Yes two battle groups would be nice BUT our Congress sees that as not important. Kind of like what they are doing to Tricare and the retirees.

Well so true

I do not believe all DOD are taking up money and doing all the issues. I do feel that some military members use the system also. Another thing is we seem a 4 day work week is going to help, but it is only 2% of the budget if they do it for DOD. Also is only having one carrier better? I do not agree to that because I have been in for 14 years and remember when Sept. 11, 2001 hit where I Was and what I was doing. I was on watch when it all happened so I worked hard long hours. I also remember how I was in the military a real short time and needed to go ahead and take charge. I was a seaman and a supervisor at work. I dealt with all message traffic fast a furious it was. I have been deployed on ships, over seas in Italy when sept 11th hit, to Iraq, Kuwait, and Afghanistan with an army unit I chose what I wanted to deploy as an IA individual augmentee so it was scary leaving my kids, but I did it. I also have been away deployed on ships and shore duty, yet everyday is a work hard day for me so all effort no matter how small or big a job it needed to be done with confidence.
I do feel we should have two carriers deployed and we will soon be in another depression a disaster. I feel that all is all with Obama and it gets worse day by day.

“corporated lobby fascious pigs”

ROTFLMMFAO!!!!!!!!!!

I can’t imagine a better gauge of your intelligence that what you just so thoughtfully provided. Thanks.

I don’t see how it would cost much more have the carrier in the gulf instead of sitting stateside
as the carrier burns no fuel (shes a nuke). The crew must be fed and paid no matter where they
are. Their excuse that it would cost too much doesn’t add up. Mel Dorsey Retired SH1 also.

During Desert Shield and Desert Storm, countries in the middle east came forward and provided the US with free fuel for the troops and ships operating there. It was there way of helping defray the costs of our operations to defend and protect their “homelands”. Perhaps it’s time that we started to ask for some form of help from these countries in return for our services. It has become very celar to everyone envolved that we, the United States, can no longer afford to be the world’s police forece for free.

Tim-Tim: A) What’s wrong with that.

We, the American people, are being told we’re fighting against terrorism but we’re really fighting for an economic system that benefits global financiers so we’re being told a lie.

B) Add democracy to your comment.

I don’t believe American politicians are altruistically motivated. It should be obvious we’re not fighting for democracy. We’re really fighting for limited natural resources that rightfully belong to the people who inhabit the lands we’re invading.

C) We have the God gien right to defend oursolves and our national interests.

We do have a right to defend ourselves against aggression directed at us. But we have no right to fight for natural resources on the lands of other countries that rightfully belong to the people who inhabit the lands we’re invading.

D) Who is your “Global Financier? Names please.

Please browse this website for an answer to your question: http://www.opensecrets.org/industries/indus.php?I

I’d say it’s in the global financiers’ interest.
